GoatGuy Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 http://s1311.photobucket.com/user/56ChevKRy/library/Maple%20Grove%20Oct%202013 Pics from Maple Grove yesterday. We talked to Jeg Coughlin outside his pit. Very nice guy and was not acting in a hurry to get away from the fans. He answered a couple questions I had about his car.
Mooneyzs Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Dave... Glad to see that you are back at it. Scott makes some great parts. Looking forward to your next update.
Dinky Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Very nice, the details are awesome. What did you used for the blower belts?
GoatGuy Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 Thank you Dinky. I used part of a drive belt from an Epson 7800 inkjet printer that was being thrown out. Lately I've been struggling with the fuel lines - getting those dang fittings on the braided lines. As a break I've been working on another kit. And raking leaves.
comp1839 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 stop raking those leaves dave! need more pictures...HEHE. seriously....... can't wait to see your next installment. gotta agree with chris on scott's parts. top shelf stuff.
GoatGuy Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 Dave- good to hear from you. Mark your calendar for Nov. 9th - Dragfest at Bruce Larson's barn. Chris- hope all is well in AZ and looking forward to more of your funny car.
GoatGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Small update - I got the gauge panel, steering wheel, and clutch ventpipe on. I also added Simpson decals to the harness so it is more historically accurate.
GoatGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) another shot. I have more fuel lines to add, the "computer" box and wheelie bars. Stay tuned and thanks for looking. I was hoping to use a nice photoetch steering wheel but I screwed it up. Live and learn. Edited November 14, 2013 by GoatGuy
gasser59 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 This is looking superb Dave. Love your detail work. Looking forward to your next update.
comp1839 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 WOW!!! great looking stuff dave. details are coming out SWEET!
GoatGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Thanks Brad and Dave. I wanted to make the vent pipe longer but it was going to interfere with the wheelie bars. I appreciate your comments.
comp1839 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 no problem dave. i appreciate a well built model. keep it up!
GoatGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 I didn't make it to Bruce's Dragfest Saturday. I wanted to get some photos of his Tribute car.
GoatGuy Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Wow there was a lot of dust on this thread. I had to take a hiatus from this car and work on something else, but now I've got the itch to finish it. I have more fuel lines attached and some more work done to the wheelie bars. I'll post some pics tonight. Thanks for looking.
GoatGuy Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) I have one more fuel line to add as soon as I get more fittings. I've tried to drill out hex rod but can never get the hole centered. Edited April 17, 2014 by GoatGuy
GoatGuy Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) Not real happy with the quality of these two shots, oh well. Oops I obviously had a fitting come loose from the barrel valve. I'll fix it today. Edited April 17, 2014 by GoatGuy
GoatGuy Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 A lot of times I struggle getting the fittings onto the braided line. Sometimes I've had luck opening the hole a little with a drill bit or starting a hole but not going all the way through so it's easier to start the line into it. I've also used Mr Sobak's idea of cutting the line at an angle to get it started.
AZ Boy Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Do I see a barrel valve on both sides of the injector?
GoatGuy Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Yes. I got the idea from Bruce Larson's Sentry Olds car that ran in '89. He told me that was how they fed more nitro into the motor back then.
GoatGuy Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Bruce said this was Tim Richard's idea who was Joe Amato's crew chief.
John Teresi Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Not real happy with the quality of these two shots, oh well. Oops I obviously had a fitting come loose from the barrel valve. I'll fix it today. "WOW" Dave………OUTSTANDING!!!!!!……..what a BEAUTIFUL motor………lot of work Buddy
Truck parts Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Great job ,and the detail work is outstanding. What paint did you use?
GoatGuy Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 John- thanks my good friend and teacher. It has been a lot of work since this is my first highly detailed build. Your work is amazing. Gordon - thank you for looking. The paint on the body is Testors Grabber Orange lacquer. The engine has various Metalizer paints on it. The headers are a generic flat black from a Walmart spray can. The fittings have Tamiya clear red and clear blue on them. I hope I answered your question. I also have one more fuel line to add when I get the correct fittings. I had typed this up last Thursday, hit the Post button but my pc decided to throw a fit. I recently saw funny car builds by Mark Killingsworth and Steve Perry in Model Cars mag and need to check out more of their work.
vintagedragfan Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 you have really made some great progress Dave! super nice my man!! keep after it you are on the down hill for sure!! awesome!!
