fishdatty Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Well it would have been nice if someone would have told me that Tamiya primer and Testors one coat laquer DON'T MIX. Anyway I have stuck the model in Castrol super clean, but not much came off. I have done alot of sanding and scraping, but most of the cracks and crevices I cant get to. Especilly the most detailed parts like bolt heads and emblems. Should I worry about getting all the paint out the small places? I just want the next paint job to turn out right. Any help would be great. Thanks F.D.
Chief Joseph Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 You could try a soak in something a little stronger, like brake fluid. Lacquers are very tenacious, and in my experience, much harder to strip than enamels. You may have to use an old stiff toothbrush to get the crud out of the details; be sure to wear eye protection when you do that.
fishdatty Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Thank you Chie Joseph... I will try it.....F.D.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) Or the really bad-stuff Easy-Off oven cleaner, or if that fails, lacquer thinner and a brush WILL get it off a RESIN body. Wear a respirator and DON'T SMOKE. Also wear gloves. This is a really good lesson on why you should ALWAYS TEST the compatibility of different paint products on a junk body or at least plastic spoons BEFORE you paint the model. Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I've never had any compatibility issues with Testors lacquer over Tamiya primer. Was the primer fully cured? Do not use lacquer thinner to remove the paint as it will melt the styrene. 91% isopropyl alcohol will remove the paint. Be careful as it is highly flammable.

We may have IF you would have asked BEFORE you painted. I believe I have sprayed One Coat over Tamiya White primer with no problem.

Lacquer thinner will work fine on a resin body, which is what I STUPIDLY assumed you had, but not on styrene. Like the man said, it will melt the plastic.
