chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Hey guys, I am new to this site, but was just browsing the internet and thought I would join another model forum. I am on "LayitLow" and "customcarforums", but those have been pretty dead, so here goes. This is a 1962 Chevy Impala that I am building for a little friendly build off on "LayitLow" Started with a 62 Impala Hard top, cut the trunk open, and decided to go topless.
JamesW Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Welcome to the nuthouse CT. What size straight jacket do you need?
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Photo etch grille. Duplicolor silver metal specks basecoat, cut thin strips of masking tape, and laid out my patterns. Added some color. Added a little more, section by section.
my80malibu Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 (edited) good progress. Welcome to the forum. What kind of paint are you using for the candy color? Edited July 8, 2012 by my80malibu
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Here is the car with all of the Kandy petterns done, added some pearl dashes and whatnot. Did some patterns on the belly, and got all of the suspension and motor chromed at Little Motor Kar Co.
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Welcome to the nuthouse CT. What size straight jacket do you need? HAHA, bro they don't make one that can hold me back! Thanks for the welcome MALIBU, I am using the ready to spray House of Kolor Kandys
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Got the motor put together, and put between the frame rails, Chrome everywhere. Made hydraulic cylinders for the front. Heres the belly of the beast, all buttoned up for the most part.
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Now for the interior, Full custom felt intior, scratch built dash, mirror center console made with chrome poster board. Here is where it is sitting right now, gotta finish up some minor details and its a wrap for this one.
JunkPile Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Some of you guys kill me with your builds. Chris, your killing me! Nice craftsmanship
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 You're on Tingos level with the interior. Not even close homie! He is top notch, and a real cool dude. This is my first attempt, definately not the last!!
chris_thobe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Some of you guys kill me with your builds. Chris, your killing me! Nice craftsmanship Thanks JunkPile. I hope I am killing you in a good way. I wasn't sure how some of the guys on here feel about the lowrider culture. I am huge on lowriders because of the amount of skills that go into some of the eye catching paint jobs, and chrome suspension and what not, but I LOVE me some hot rods and rat rods too!
JamesW Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Not even close homie! He is top notch, and a real cool dude. This is my first attempt, definately not the last!! You're definatly up there with him. I wish I could pull off paint work like that. I've got a 66 Impala begging for a pattern job.

You got an airbrush?? If so I can walk you through it, it isn't as hard as it looks. Just a little tedious and time consuming, but as long as you take your time and don't over do it on the paint you should be fine!
JamesW Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Nope. strictly rattle can for me, I can't afford an airbrush and compressor. LOL I did some "patterns" once on a 05 300C. Didn't turn out too bad, but I really want somethin wild like your 62.
Joker Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 This is the first post by you I've seen Chris. Like the way you kick the door in...Hahahaha BTW..huge Lo Lo candy/pattern/fades/mettalics paint fan. Welcome to MCM James aka Joker
JunkPile Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 You're killin' me in a good way. Low-Riders either in scale or full size are not my favorites but......I have to step up to admire the quality of workmanship that go into some of these scale models and full size rides.
Guest Darkside Customs Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Man, this one killed it in my opinion bro! Supr clean work... Tingos would be proud of you on that interior!

Any air compressor will work as long as you have the right fittings. You would NOT beleive how much your paint jobs will change after going to air!!

Like the way you kick the door in...Hahahaha BTW..huge Lo Lo candy/pattern/fades/mettalics paint fan. Welcome to MCM James aka Joker Thanks Joker.. This is my first thread, I have only been back into building for about 9 months, after about a 4 year break, and even before then I wasn't doing it that much. I am still learning all the tricks and techniques with the airbrush, but getting better with practice. There will be alot more pattern jobs coming soon. Got a CRAZY one in the works right now.

Thanks, yea they are time consuming, every now and then I gotta build something quick and not as crazy to make me feel like I am making progress.

Whats up Darkside, thanks man, preciate it. Tingos stopped by my thread and gave me props... Not gonna lie, made me pretty happy. He is pretty cool from what little we have talked.
Hedgehog Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 speechless body. I don't have to be a huge lowrider fun to admire the great job you've done with this proyect. Love the color of the body. After all. It's you creating and that is to admire.
Tom Setzer Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I love that paint job. If this is your first, I can't wait to see your next work!
