Question about speedometers

This may seem like a dumb question, or something I just dont know, but why are there different number markings ?, meaning either in 5 increments, or 20 increments. Is it a region thing where the cars are from?

Styling and image, plain and simple. Sportier cars seem to have finer incriments while luxury barges go in for the coarse scale.
