I'm wondering if there's a kit out there with decent front suspension parts for a 2wd 70's-80's Chevy/GMC pickup. I recall the Revell/Monogram trucks are all 4x4 except the Hot Rod Chevy Street Pickup, but I think it was a custom I beam? One option I thought might work is the parts from one of the recent Revell or AMT van reissues. Does either of them come with a decent example of A-arms?

The only 2WD 1/25 Chevy pickup of that era is the '78(?) MPC pickup:

The 1/24 Revell (ex Monogram) Chevy Van's front suspension is very simplified- basically three pieces. The AMT 1/25 Chevy van isn't much better in my opinion. There are good pics of both kits' parts in the Kit Reviews section here on the forum.

Maybe a later model ('88+) Chevy/GMC kit from AMT or MPC could provide some better donor parts?

You're correct about the Revell 1/25 Chevy stepside's front suspension. It's custom, and pretty crude.

Picture206-vi.jpgI once grafted the AMT 67 camaro front suspension to the Fall Guy truck frame, and it worked out well. later I found the kit in Casey's post above. A local resin caster made the front suspension parts and was selling them along with the Cab. He is currently out of business right now. You would be better served to do the Camaro front suspension than to find one of those original kit suspensions IMHO.100_0922-vi.jpg Edited by my80malibu

Thanks for the info! Good idea on the '88+ parts, I'll go through my junkyard and have a look at them. I don't think they used the same cross shaft design, but that could easily be changed with a pice of rod between the bushings. I've got some camaro and S10 parts around, will have a look at those too!

There is another parts source that hasn't been mentioned that will yeild the correct parts, the Revell '64/'65 Chevrolet trucks. The basic front suspension is the same on GM trucks from '63-'87, with the only major changes being the disk brakes in '71 (different knuckles, tie rods, and balljoints) and a change to rubber A arm bushings in '73 on 1/2 tons. Otherwise, the suspension is the same and many parts are even directly interchangable.

Oh yea!! Completely forgot about that one, and I wanted to get a '64/65 to put the 4x4 parts from the 84 AMT GMC on anyway.
