59 Impala Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Ok, here's another glue-bomb that I've started on. Like I need to start another one right now. I got this at a model show in Lima Ohio yesterday and I've stripped it already. Well, here are some pics of what she looks like now. (It's not bad). The beginning The body cleaned up perty good. Just a little bit of work is needed. The interior on the other hand is requiring a bit more work on it. There was real carpet glued on the floor and is a pain in the neck to remove. More pics in my photobucket ifin ya would like to take a peak. Thanks fer lookin. Dan Edited August 6, 2012 by 59 Impala
bryan_m Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 wow! that bad boy was a little rough wasnt it!? LOL im sure you can make her look good though..........nice start! cheers bryan

59 Impala Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Well, you can hold on to it fer awhile. Maybe some youngin who never heard of a typewriter can use it . I fergot to mention that the windshield is fubar I believe. I also need to Alclad the bumpers and grill. One other thing, I need to find the front fender spears. This had rear view mirrors in place of the spears. One good thing is that it had 57 Plymouth hub caps on it and they're in very good condition. I just love those hubcaps. I also have the 8 lug wheels from a 62 Bonneville the I can use, plus if needed, I have the engine from the same 62. I had a 62 Bonneville convertible back in the day and thru it away but kept the parts mentioned. I have kicked myself for that ever since and I'm getting sore from so much kicking. Dan
bryan_m Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Dan, let me look i might (no promises) just might have a new windshield for this......i had two of these kits before, when i bought that collection a while back, and one of them the body was missing......let me see if i still have it and its yours buddy......ill let you know asap! cheers bryan
jcbigpaw Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I have part of a 61 in a box awaiting my attention. It was started and then given to me. Im curious how your going to do the windshield as I am going to have to make one for mine too. I'll be watching. Keep going.

I will try and keep calm buddy. Dan
bryan_m Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 is the windshield the same in the hardtop version dan? i thought i had convertibles, but its a hardtop. i found one of them, now i gotta find the one thats missing the body..... bryan
Mike Kucaba Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 All the parts for that can be had at Modelhaus. Their vacuum formed windshield is a great choice, and more in scale than the plastic one, especially for a convertible.
bryan_m Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 there ya go dan, thats a great idea, especially if its more in scale.....the thinner the better! bryan
charlie8575 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 That has got to be one of the crustiest, nastiest glue-bombs I've ever seen. That you got it to strip that cleanly is amazing. What do you use for stripper? The hardtop window unit will fit with careful trimming. I don't know what you have in mind for colors, Dan, but I'm seeing maroon with a red interior for this. This picture from the sales brochure has a bucket-seat can and shows you the tri-tone interior layout. The pink area is actually a lighter shade of red. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Pontiac/1961%20Pontiac/1961_Pontiac_Prestige_Brochure/1961%20Pontiac%20Prestige-02-03.html Charlie Larkin
59 Impala Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Thanks guys. I'm not sure if the windshields are the same or not. I'm going to try and clean this one up and see ifin I can use it. I'm not in the position to buy stuff at this time. I haven't worked for over three years now and that puts a hurt on the funds. Anyway, I've worked on the body last night and cleaned it up a little more. Got rid of some of the glue mess on it and I'm still going to do some more today. Charlie, I use Super Clean to strip paint off. I also use brake fluid if SC doesn't work, but on this one the SC worked just fine. I haven't thought about the color yet. That's a long way off. I do need to come up with the front fender spears cause they were a missin on it and in place of them were the rear view mirrors. Bummer. I think that I can scratch build them, or at least, I hope I can. I need to get a close-up of them to see what they really look like. Dan
charlie8575 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 One spear close-up comin' up... http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/1961-Pontiac-Bonneville-Pictures-c7551#pi18966682 Modelhaus probably has those, too. I would suspect no more than $3-4 for the pair, plus postage. Perhaps it would be wise to order that and the windsheild. There are a some nice pictures of '61s there. There's a really pretty white/blue Sport Coupe. If I go for the Modelhaus resin, I think I know the color scheme I'll be using... Charlie Larkin
59 Impala Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks Charlie. I got the pic that I needed for the spear. I hope that I can make it. Dan
59 Impala Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks Von Zipper. I appreciate yer kind werds muh friend. I werked on the windshield tonight and it's gettin kinda clear and ya can see thru it now. Pics will be posted up tomorrow, just not a lot of progress yet. Dan
Rob McKee Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 What a very cool kit! I can just imagine some kid putting that together many years ago using their imagination. I used to use real carpet on some of my builds when I was a kid as well. I thought it looked great at the time. You are giving this model a second life. I can't wait to see more.
59 Impala Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks Rob. I'm hoping to have a couple of pics up later today. Not much to show though. This is going to be a slow re-build I think. Sometimes when I start something like this I don't stop until it's finished. I do have other builds to finish along with this one. Dan
59 Impala Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 WOW, looks like I kinda fergot about this car. Well, I did finish it. I had a lot of fun rebuilding this kit. Here are some pics of the finished car. I hope ya like it. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
Craig Irwin Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Nice save! I like that you went with the 8 lugs.
jeffs396 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Excellent save Dan! Put that beauty 'under glass' here!
charlie8575 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Sunshiney yellow. Nice job on that, Dan. Charlie Larkin
