'70 MACH1 RHD

G' Day all,

When I first joined the forum (late May this year) I posted a new topic showing some of my completed builds. The 1970 RHD Mustang Mach1 got a reponse from a few curious members, so I thought I'd do a topic on this build ;)

She's based on a mates car 'down under' and he asked me simply to build a model that looks like his  He went and bought the Revell Mustang Mach1 'Special Addition' and I did the rest.

The beauty about building this kit was having the real car as reference ;)

The only changes made were flipping over the dash to RHD, being symetrical, was pretty straight forward. The downside was the very flimsy wood grain instrument decals (the drivers side ripped) so I painted it instead :P

Paint is Testors by Boyd 'Dark Green Pearl' over a silver base.

Wheels and tyres came from my spares and the 'Shaker Scoop' is a resin one from 'The Parts Box' here in Adelaide http://www.thepartsbox.com/

The real car is currently undergoing some major repairs, in the photos of the real car we just did an engine swap (351 4V Cleveland)

On the plus side: very nice interior and dash, it looks great.

On the minus side: the silver painted window trim is pretty shaky. I suggest you try chrome foil on your next model. It's not that hard to do, and the effect is much more realistic than painted trim. Also it's much easier to get a nice, straight edge.

Ray, it's always nice to see a well-built Mustang on here, and I'll bet your friend is pleased with what you've created. Kudos on the interior, color choice, and the RHD conversion.

If I could make one important suggestion, use the 1:1 car as a reference when it comes to painting the grille, especially around the headlights. This eliminates the "goldfish eye" look that Ford never intended for these cars to have.

Cheers and thanks for the comments guys B)

I am using BMF Harry, just got the 'new and improved' type, I just didn't have any when I built this, sometimes BMF is hard to get 'Down Under' and you have to make do

Thanks for the painting tip Monty and yes, he was pretty happy with the finished product B)
