fractalign Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Hey. This is how i am making up the cab, by using the original cab as a template, i have traced around it onto cd cases to get the basic out line. This is the basic shape
fractalign Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Once i cut out the sides and roof i had to work out how to shape the roof. To make up the curve in the roof, i made up a balsa wood buck and glued it to the plastic base, then sanded it down, i then filed the edges of the balsa wood so that it would not be visible when i filled it. I find that automotive two part body filler works the best for this, because it is strong and dries quickly. Once the first layer was applied and set i roughed it down and added another over the low spots. After a third light coat of body filler i finally applied a coat of etch primer to it to see how it was shaping up and then assembled the basic cab. This is how it is looking at the moment ! Next on list is doing the firewall and making up the windscreen.
fractalign Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Here it is with a fresh coat of etch primer and windscreen frame sitting on top. The cab is still in two at the moment with the roof and rear section needing to be attached to the front half at the a pillars, but before i can do that i will need to get the windscreen frame into place and make a surround for it that attaches to either pillar. After doing that i will cut out a window for the back of the cab. Once that is done i can assemble the two halves and begin working on the hood, grill, and fenders. Stay tuned !
