I have some parts that need to be chromed. Can anyone tell me how to contact The little Motorcar Company or another suitable chroming company. I know about Chrome-Tech, and have seen his work, it's nice, but I have heard of extra long turnaround times, like months and I can't chance waiting that long. I did read an article years ago on prepping and sending parts, but I can't seem to find it. Any info by those who have gone through this process would also be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Try this email addy Rob....................

Little Motor Kar Company

Also here's a physical address................

Little Motor Kar Co.

Reading, PA 19606

Phone/FAX (610) 779-1462

I've used them in the past, and he does great work! He's also a local guy so I'm more inclined to send parts to him than to Chrometech. :D

As far as prepping your parts, you want to dechrome the original stuff with Easy-Off................you want to use the YELLOW can and NOT that fume free junk. It won't take off the lacquer underneath the chrome. Some have used CSC, but this can take a while to strip the chrome. Just the same, use rubber gloves as Easy-Off and CSC is nasty stuff! :o

Also to make things as nice and smooth as possible, I've used a sanding stick to polish up the parts such as bumpers.........this'll aid in your chrome coming back super slick.

As far as mounting................I can't help you there as I usually have them mount it since they would know which way the parts should face. ;)

Chrome-Tech does not take months!!

This is how rumors get started and I will not stand for it. Your post is very close to being edited!!!

However, he does run the machine once a month. If you send your parts in just AFTER he last ran the vacuum chamber then your parts are going to have to sit for a month before they can be worked on. Best bet is to call and find out the deadline....BEFORE sending. I have always had good experiences with Chrome-Tech.

Chalk up another plus for Chrome Tech. I had never had anything chromed until last year, when I brought some stuff to him in Toledo. I didn't start out small, no, I had two full bodies and a set of wheels done.

Toledo, of cource, is October, and I had my bodies by the end of November.

There was a problem (caused by me, that made them not plate well) so he had to run them again...It took only a little more then a month, AND he called me to let me know that there would be a wait.

A VERY happy customer here, and I will probably leave some more stuff with him this year in Toledo. (This read reminds me, I need to give him a call and find out some stuff first!)

That car looks really good Billy! You are getting so much better at shooting pictures that it could almost be mistaken for a 1:1!

I have used Chrome-tech for years and have almost always had good results. I mount my own and it is just common sense how to mount it. Face out , don't mount anything where something will block the plating from getting on the part.

I pre-coat my parts with clear lacquer. I get a better result this way because sometimes' Bob's pre-coating isn't as good as I like. I have found Chrome-tech to be reliable and conscientious. In fact I am sending 2 racks off to him this week. ;)

Take er easy there big fella. :D I wasn't trying to slam Chrome-Tech, or start rumors, just explaining why I wanted other avenues to check into. I should have stated that the parts are for a commission build, meaning deadline. I have no problem using C-T if turnaround, pricing, etc. are comparable. The experience of a long turnaround was a personal friend's and he did say they looked great when he got his parts back(he's right,I saw them), just took longer than he cared for. He wasn't slamming CT either, just sharing his personal experience. Maybe an isolated incedent, goes to show that one persons frustrating experience can turn into semi-negative word of mouth to many. My apologies to Chrome-tech Bob if I've done any harm. Next time I will be more careful with my words and try to just ask the question. Feel free to edit(delete) this if it's still a problem, my question was answered B)

Thanks for the info Bill and all yous other guys for views on this. BTW That chrome body, and the pics do look good.
