The Modeling Hermit Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 My wife was watching a show on building fish tanks, and one that they built was on using a phone booth as a tank. This gave me an idea as a way to display models. An old style phone booth would be an excellent way to display fire trucks, taxis, wreckers, and police cars.
CorvairJim Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Sounds interesting, but I have a couple of questions... 1) Where do you get an old phone booth? 2) Where do you PUT an old phone booth!?!?!
High octane Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 That would be a good idea if the phone booths are not hard to come by or too expensive. Right now I'm using two curio cabinets approximately 26" wide and 18" deep and 78" high and they look good enough to display in the family room as well as our living room. One case is for my built models and the other for my die-cast collection and both have enough room to add at least one more shelf if necessary. That would be a question for Clark Kent, no?
The Modeling Hermit Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 One could use the design of the phonebooth as your inspiration. It could be built from wood and glass and/or plexiglass, and sized to fit an area in your home.
moparmagiclives Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I'm not sure a phone booth is quite the right shape for a display unless it was in the center of the room. I would love to get a 32 ford grill shell from speed way and mount shelves in it. Plexy glass front. I'm sure someone sells one already but it would be fun to build.

disabled modeler Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 A old glass showcase from a store makes a great display cabinet and some even have a light in them.

Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 You'd have to be careful not to go into the phone booth and get turned into a super hero and then you get to pick which vehicle to ride in for the day.
tubbs Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 remember, of all my years as a superhero, phone booth doors open inward!! you would have to modify or reverse the door so it wouldn't crash into those precious builds!! anyways, i keep what few builds i have in boxes, i know what they look like.... thats why they are in boxes!!!
