Daf57
Hi all, I'd like to try the AK weathering products - but as I look through their product line I'm getting a bit overwhelmed (they appear to be geared toward armor) by all the different washes. So you guys that use them ... which washes or sets would you recommend as a good "starter" set for automotive applications - such are engine/wheel grime, etc...? Thanks! southpier
if you're just experimenting, use some dirty brush cleaner or thinned india ink w/isopropyl alcohol. if you enjoy being overwhelmed, tune into the military modelers and hold on tight - it'll be a bumpy ride! Daf57
Hi Joe - thanks for the reply. I have been using some different DIY washes, including the ink/alcohol. But I have been hearing some good things about the AK weathering products and wanted to try them. Yeah - the armor guys are out of control awesome with the weathering!! Thanks! crazyjim
Check with Dr. Cranky. I believe he suggests brown and black.
Daf57
Thanks Jim! I was hoping to hear from Dr. Cranky on this thread about that.
Dr. Cranky
Daffydd, wow, first of all, what a great name you have. Second, yes, I have experience with AK products. My recommendation is to get the black and brown washes (that's all you need for most car needs) and I would also urge you to get their rust/weathering kit that just came out. There are other products that I recommend if you are planning to do some intense weathering, but if you are not, then you don't need them. crazyjim
I found the AK numbers - AK-075 black and AK-066 brown. Probably some AK-011 white spirits.

Daf57
Thanks so much, Dr. Cranky and Jim, for the recommendations and AK#s - I'll be ordering soon! Dr. Cranky - I would love to get the "intense weathering" recommendations, too, if you don't mind. Thanks, Joe, for the tip on the site and newsletter, I subscribed for the tips. Let the weathering begin! Daf
