Dr. Cranky Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 It's Nikola Tesla Monday here in the Lab-RAT-ory. We have started a new build, and a new project that's inspired by two people from history: Nikola Tesla and Leo Theremin--yes, they both played quite a bit the role of the mad scientist in their laboratories (wow, I've gotten so used to spelling that word my way, the norm looks weird to me. LOL!) Tesla is fueling quite a few paint and graphic ideas for this build, and THEREMIN is playing in the background to help with the images of electricity, etc . . . Anyway, the build is just in its very early stages. I smoothed the body, cleaned the parts. Got everything so far ready for primer and paint, which should start sometime tomorrow. I have fallen in love once again with a new kit, this time the 68 Charger (Special Edition) by Revell. I got two, but think I will need a few more. This build was also inspired by COOL HAND's (Luke's) 69 Charger which he posted recently. That model is still worming its way into my imagination. I hope you will all feel free to post some of your own versions of this kit on this thread as a way to share your inspiration with me, in particular those of you who have built smooth, sleek, and modern custom renditions of this kit. I am look forward to a great deal of fun, so let's all share the eye candy. More progress soon.
Bartster Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 l've been sitting on this kit for a few years now, wondering how l want to build it. l'll be watching this.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 Bart, I have too, but the time has come to do something with it, and I hope it ends up being something interesting. You should get yours cranking too.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 Very true, Andrew. I will have visuals veery shortly. Yes indeed.
jeffs396 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 One of my favorite 80s bands took their name from the famous scientist! I'll be watching...
Johnag4004 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Very true, Andrew. I will have visuals veery shortly. Yes indeed.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Sorry Sir, but, ... I second that motion. LOL
dimebolt Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 It's not a new or modren rendition, and it's already posted on this forum, but here's my 68.
dimebolt Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Welcome Doc. Cool idea! Can't wait to see what everyone has. Ought to be alot of nice builds I'm sure. Corey
Cool Hand Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Its real nice to know my build provided some inspiration for your build Doc. I certainly get lots of inspiration and have learnt alot from you. So as you say inspiration is a 2 way street. Cant wait to see some progress pics and im especially looking foward to seeing the paint job
Dr. Cranky Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Thanks, Corey, and Luke. Yes, INSPIRATION IS A TWO WAY STREET. LOL! My templates arrived today, so I am good to go in terms of starting the painting process.

Cool Hand Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Cool vid Doc, Now that you have explained in more detail the design for the paint,im even more looking foward to watch it evolve.
Jerome P. Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Cool. Can't wait to see more. Though, in my personal opinion, since it's inspired by Tesla, it should have a Tesla coil on it somewhere.
dimebolt Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Corey your 68 looks good. Dr Cranky, your paint work are always awesome I cant wait to see the your paint woek on the 68 Charger. Thanks John. Corey
daveparker Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I know you have seen this already DC, I wanted to share with others here. This is the same kit, mine was a bomber I got on ebay. The engine was assembled but unpainted as well as the chassis. I froze it all and then broke it all back down and started over. Anyway, turned out ok, it's a great kit for sure!
dimebolt Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 (edited) The Charger looks awesome Dave. Nice save. Cool website also. Corey Edited October 16, 2012 by dimebolt
Dr. Cranky Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Cool. Can't wait to see more. Though, in my personal opinion, since it's inspired by Tesla, it should have a Tesla coil on it somewhere. Its' going to have a coil indeed right over the engine. Lots of electric bolts branching out, etc . . .Nice build, Dave. You tell me the wheels are from the 66 Chevelle wagon?
Dr. Cranky Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 All right, my friends, here come some pictures . . . Working on the chassis and the engine . . . this kit is a real pleasure so far. The body is in white Plastikote primer and it has been smoothed with 4000 grit cloth.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 All the other parts have been primered and painted and are awaiting assembly. The interior is not going to be done until I get the body painted so that I can match up the colors . . . I love these wheels: I am going to give this one an aggressive back to front stance . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Here's the body based in Orion fine metallic silver from HOK and I went ahead and applied the basic tape graphics . . . LOL, there's a fine line between TESLA and TRON! Pun intended. HA!
dimebolt Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 This one's gonna be awesome Doc. Cant wait. Corey
