Dave McFly Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 if anybody built this kit or ones from the same company. I have a few questions 1: is it curbside? 2: how detailed is it? I would love to make it into a HERBIE using parts and decals from a trashed Polar Lights Love bug kit (mostly for the large sunroof panel and front and rear plate decals).
Randy Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 if anybody built this kit or ones from the same company. I have a few questions 1: is it curbside? 2: how detailed is it? I would love to make it into a HERBIE using parts and decals from a trashed Polar Lights Love bug kit (mostly for the large sunroof panel and front and rear plate decals). It's a curbside. It is a nice kit, but if you want to build Herbie, I'd use the body from Polarlights. The heavy window posts that no one likes in the PL kit are correct, the earlier cars had smaller windows. I'm using the PL body with the Tamiya runner gear, and trim to build a my '59. I'm just trying to figure out how to get it all together to make it work, there is a slight difference is size. I'm use the Hasagawa kit to build my '66. I have both in the driveway, and it's surprising the little differences.
VW Dave Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 The Hasegawa '66 is a nice kit, and it is a curbside, but I agree with Randy; the PL kit is better suited to a Herbie replica. The closed 'ragtop' from the PL kit really doesn't fit any other bodies too well anyway, although I do recommend cutting the mounting tabs off of the part & filling the holes in the roof before painting the body because they are visible once the top is in place. I'm using Hasegawa's '67 kit to do a decent replica of my 1:1 '68. My car has early 'Euro' bumpers, and simply shaving the horn grilles off the front fenders put me a lot closer to the real car. Dave - If you need any spare Beetle model parts, feel free to drop me a line. Randy - If your real Bug has full overrrider/'towel rail' bumpers, the Tamiya '66 kit has great ones that will most likely fit the bill; here is the front one on my Gunze '56:
Gregg Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Find an old IMC/Union bug It is a very good kit, full detail, and a `65 I believe I'm on the road, don't have kits here or material Tamiya's is one of the best around though
