Bartster Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 What is available in rattle cans that comes close to matching B-5 Blue? I have Testors Saphire Blue metal flake, but it seems a tad dark to my eyes. Thanks in advance, Bart.
ChrisPflug Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 What year B5? That paint coding system started in '69 as "EB5"- which is a bit lighter than "GB5" which replaced it for '71 and is probably closer to the Testors sapphire. GB5 was replaced in '74 with KB5 Lucerne Blue which was a little less "intense" and a little lighter again The Testors enamel seems to change quite a bit based on primer or basecoat Also seems to be a good selection of blues in rattle cans in Duplicolor touch up paint
Bartster Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Thanks, guys. l'm replicating a friend's '69 GTX. l'm gonna give the saphire blue over white primer a go. lt will be close enough. This will also be my 1st attempt at a vinyl top, which will be white. My main concern is that the blue will look even darker in contrast with the white top.
ChrisPflug Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Lest we forget MB5 (1976) ... As a former owner of a few examples, forgetting '76 through the end of the "old" Chrysler Corporation might just be all right
gtx6970 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) Duplicolor has a medium blue thats reasonably close to B5 It's called Bahama Blue metallic. here is my ( one of many ) stalled project painted with it. Edited November 23, 2012 by gtx6970
