Furiousgeorge Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm going to tackle my first shop model, and I've set my sights on the 1/350 Graf Spee. There are two kits that scale, an Acadamy and a Trumpeter. Does anyone know which us the better kit? Opinions? Thanks!
Agent G Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I believe both are new tools of this subject. That said AFAIK either is sufficient. I'm not much of a ship builder so I'd peruse this site: http://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/ G
Harry P. Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 A google search is what you should have done. Reviews of both kits: http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/dkm/graf-spee/350-acy/acy-review.html http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/dkm/graf-spee/350-tsm/tsm-review.html
Furiousgeorge Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 I did read a few reviews off google, but they all sound exactly alike. I was hoping for someone who's built one to share their thoughts on it/them.
Furiousgeorge Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Well, a buddy of mine settled this for me by offering a 1/350 Tamiya Bismarck for dirt cheap! Are there any tips or tricks I should know? Ships are new territory for me. Thanks!
Jim B Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Good score! Actually, if you can find copies of "Building & Detailing Scale Ship Models" & "The Basics of Ship Modeling" both by Mike Ashey, they'll really help you out. And definately go over to Model Shipwrights on Kitmaker. There is a wealth of knowledge on ship modeling over there, and some very good builders.
