I have the AMT 49 Merc 3in1 kit which can be built stock, custom and... as some kind if race car. I thought about building the race version and went to do some research online, but I couldn't find absolutely any pics of a 49 Mercury racer, stocker, gasser... Anything... Were there absolutely no 49 Mercs ever used for racing? Does anyone know where I could find any pics whatsoever? Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

MATIJA

Some ideas. Last shot is a Lincoln, but Mercs were big heavy cars too, and could have been set up to race pretty much anything, from Pan American road-racing to circle track, to drag racing. Again, as big heavy flathead-powered cars, they wouldn't have run in any glory classes at the drags, but could have been built to a number of other classes.

Having a fairly slippery shape, it wouldn't be surprising to see one chopped and set up to run dry-lakes or Bonneville. Nice thing about modeling is that you can build correct 'could have been' cars that never actually existed.

That's great, Greg, thanks, but I was hoping for reference pics of real cars :)

Bill, there seems to be something wrong with your link... (edit: never mind, I see it now - thanks)
