gtx6970 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 This one like so many others started out as a simple build. then turned to BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH when the paint crinkled up real bad. So in the tank it went . I did finally get the body straighted back out and down to bare plastic ( not fun btw ) last week. Back in primer and painted over the weekend. And the decals on it today. Body was stripped of it's kit supplied pearl white,I sanded the body side mldg off to lessen the horrible lines it has. Painted in a duplicolor rattle can light gold with one coat of clear for now . Once the decals dry I'll put another clear coat on to seal it all in. Nothing fancy , it'll be some basic underhood detailing like plug wires and maybe battery cables, but thats going to be about it . This is the Polar lights snap kit btw . And I am not particullary happy with the decals 2 layer registraition . No matter what I did I could not get them on where I wanted them so they looked like the pictures I have of the car. But they're on and I am washing my hands with them. I'll probably use parts of the kits engine and add a hemi top end from the parts box. Comments,, good and bad,, always welcome and much appreciated.
gtx6970 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Interior is rattle can Tamaya Champange gold with some details picked out with brush paints I've read conflicting info , one place says the car was gold interior yet the Cady decal sheet says it was red interior. I liked the gold better.
1972coronet Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 From everything I've read / seen in my 43 years , 1965 "WO51" had 'champagne' interior ; not sure about the "RO51" . Not that you've asked , but : 1964 had red interior ; 1966 D-Dart was red ; 1967 had black ; and , 1968 Hurst A-bodies were black .
gtx6970 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) I am aware of the avail colors in a RO - WO car. Also all WO Coronets and RO Belvederes were 2 door sedans There in lies the problem , The information I have is the actual car was not a real WO race hemi Coronet from birth. It was a 426 wedge car converted to Hemi a driveline shortly after delivery. The color it's painted is the color it's going to stay. Edited April 16, 2013 by gtx6970

A converted 426 Street Wedge would have a regular interior . It's of little consequence ; yours looks great !
gtx6970 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) I did assemble the kits shortblock with a set of Johan Hemi cylinder heads and crossram intake . That way I wanted to get it in primer tomorrow maybe then painted later in the week so I can start detailing the underhood stuff this weekend ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And thats when it went downhill. It just wasn't meant for me to finish this car. I was turning around to come out of my work bench area when I smacked the side of the body on the door frame and put an 1/8" chip in the left rear quarter panel. Plus under the right lighting and at the the right angle I can see crazing under / in the paint that didn't show up till I cleared it. At least the 1st time I painted it, the crazing showed up before it was cleared and the decals were on. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to see if it could fly . And at that point, I just closed the doors , turned out the lights and walked away before I did something I would regret tomorrow. Tomorrow I 'm just gonna touch up the knick, dab some clear over it and move on. Edited April 17, 2013 by gtx6970
gtx6970 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Did manage to get a few minutes to mess with this one the past few weeks . Got the body sitting on the chassis for the 1st time just to get a feel for the stance. With all the issues this has caused I decided to just use the kits tires and wheels ( every picture I've found of this car it used steel wheels on the back ) Never in my life have I had a model kit fight me like this one has from the word go. From paint issues, decal issues and me putting a nasty knick in the drivers side quarter panel. I decided I better get it done before it ended up in the parts pile. As soon as the engine wiring is done, this one will be off the shelf , sooner the better.
