Figured i would start my first build thread so here it is, feel free to tell me what i'm doing wrong or your HONEST opinions on the build. No need to sugar coat anything with me, i have very thick skin.

First thing, i did not pick out the paint color, My wife did! She is the money maker and said i could buy the kit if i painted it whatever color she picked out. Figured i would try and go with a 70's drag racing feel to the paint job. The kit decals will be used and i will try to tint the windows a light yellow. Might try Future and food coloring for that.

Here is the body painted, cleared, polished and waxed, just waiting for BMF and decals!

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures!!

Here's a not so good picture of the interior. I don't think i like how the black dash pad looks, might paint it to match the rest of the interior when i can see it in the body.

Also since its a drag car and weight is an issue i might only go with a drivers seat and no center console. Roll bar is painted to match the body color. Carpet is embossing powder, i think the color is called brown sugar.

Little bit of work on the chassis but not much. Color was a semi gloss black but it looked full gloss. I painted it with some dull coat, the frame rails will be repainted with a true semi gloss black. Letters were removed from the gas tank only.

Engine was painted the new hemi orange, looks more red than orange. Also the valve covers were kept chrome but painted with dull coat to tone them down. Engine will be wired.

Nice, i like the color. But one suggestion would be. Under the back seat, it should be primer/sealer and over spray of body color That is if you're going for a factory look.. And a question on the embossing powder? I guess you got it at a craft store? And how did you aplly it to the floor? And does this kit come with the red line tires? After seeing a few threads on this model i kind of want to pick one up now lol.

Not going for a factory look here. Going for a restored 70's style drag car with retarded bright paint! lol I think the semi gloss black looks way to glossy, i'm going to spray it with some Model master semi gloss to try and knock off some shine.

The embossing powder i got at Hobby Lobby, its in the isle with the stamps. I just use good old white Elmers glue and brush it where i want the look of carpet and sprinkle it on then dump the excess off and back in the jar and let dry.

Looking great , James !

Nice clean build !

That green resembles a 1969 special order colour from Dodge . I can't recall its name right now ; however it was quite close to Chevy's Rally Green .

Keep up the great work !

Looking really good so far, and I got to agree with the others about the paint....Excellent color! Nice paint job too, and smooth BMF work. Nice and clean assembly and painting all over, too.

I don't know how fast this would be, but since many Drag cars, even if they were street driven too or slower bracket cars, they have Seat Belts that are designed for Drag Racing Use. And they are mounted to the roll cage. The crossmember should be in straight level, now they can't be installed there. On the picture the crossmember is marked as "A".

But this just depends on what class car you are building, and how fast it would be. :) Hope this helps.

Thank you. I got some more work done today but didn't get it finished. I was looking into doing a 6 point cage in it but i never intended to do as much as i have. This was going to be a quick build just for my wife (she asked me to build her a green muscle car), i am thinking it just might go on the shelf next to the others now!

Your cell phone pictures are better then most peoples regular camera pictures! Oh yeah, did the kit come with red line tires like shown on the box?

Very nice even though I am not feeling the green color

Thanks, its not my top choice for color either but it will make my wife happy, she picked the color.

I hate the rims, too flashy for what i was trying to do. I was tossing around the idea of painting the faces, ill leave it up to the wife since this is her car.

Look up what a Keystone Klassic looks like. It's not that flashy cause there are black ascents in the spokes and around the lugs.

Edit: Add image.

yea that in it's self is worth the weight in gold!.. any time you can make the spouse happy wile letting you do your things is always a good thing.. heh I remember the flack I was getting from my friends when I did a 1:16 69 GTO and a 1:32 85 Corvette in pink ( the corvette is in bright pick and the gto is in more of a florescent fuchsia ) and yea the keystone rims did have some black on them that broke up all that shinny.. I had a set on my 1:1 78 Monte Carlo.

It makes me happy she likes and understands the hobby. Whats funny is she hates pink!!! Lucky me.....well kinda, I built a Panther Pink Challenger T/A and she still gives heck over the color 2+ years later.
