Newbie question for you guys:

I was priming some parts for the cockpit this morning and by mistake I grabbed a can of paint (Tamiya Silver leaf TS-30), sprayed it and realized it was not the right stuff, BUT the paint seemed to look much better than when the same color was used over the primer... So I just kept going over it. Is this paint going to flake being applied directly over the plastic?.

Is not a big deal, but I figured, if the finish looks so much better, what would happen if I were to do all the small interior parts not using primer?.

You should be fine, i almost never use primer on parts, even when painting the body i don't use primer unless there was heavy body work done or filler used. I've had lifting/paint moving away from an area happen when i didn't wash the parts tree in warm soapy water.

Thanks James, I do like how the paint looks without primer (For small parts is awesome).

I know is not a big deal and may even sound like "overkill", but I'm a true fanatic not only of the Tamiya fine surface primer, but also of a product called Spaz Stix ultimate surface pre-prep, I apply both of these products to everything!!!!... Go through cases of these :P

Ah yes, no doubt about it...

It may not be with the stuff I'm building now, but really want to make a nice set of cars for my son who is 11 at the time (We still have some room in our "man shelf" and he already knows it belongs to him... Sorry it looks a bit messy now).

That is so cool! I don't think my 11 year old will get in to models, but the real thing, oh yeah! He's helped me replace starters, brake pads, bled brakes and removed, installed and torqued my wheels. Guess thats what I get for taking him to High Performance Drivers Ed(HPDE) events since he was three months old.

You are very lucky Oscar... I purchased a race car for my son before he came out of her mother's belly... at age 4 he was already doing skidpad and cone slaloms; I had him set for Easy kart at age 6 and then tried again at age 9, I even get him into the GrandAM pit road every year BUT he is just not into it, he likes basketball :(

Appears our kids have the same tastes in race cars. Whit LOVES DP's and Scott Pruitt is his favorite driver.

Thanks Tomo, I guess is all part of long hours of reading and watching every single tutorial I could find... But believe me, this stuff still too far away from being a good quality build (Clean at its best).

I just happen to meet a guy from a local club, he stopped by my house and brought some of his models... I can honestly say it seems is going to take ages to get to his level

The man shelf is not so nice the days you have to do the cleanup!!!

I have to buy it on eBay, according to my local hobby shop there is a huge shipping regulation for white primers... You can get it here for abut $ 10.00 per can (Plus ship).

*EDIT* The listing shows sold out but the seller has more in stock... Sorry I needed them

Walmart brand flat white also works good, just needs a light sanding to take the rough texture away. Give it a try, 2.00 compared to 10+ shipping and its almost 3 times the size.

I know that seller, I bought a lot of his supply of Mr Hobby clear, he is a good seller. so you bought each can separately I take it?

Its cost about the same to get Tamiya primer at my LHS ,

His prices are competitive (And in some instances even lower) compared to my local hobby shops, the problem is, according to the shop manager, there is a restriction to bring this particular primer to Florida, but this seller usually gives me a big discount on shipping (Plus no tax), so is good compared to the usual retail. I have tried metalizer (Buffing and non buffing) and pretty much every other kind of primer out there and I couldn't find any as fine in thickness as this one.

Like I said before, I have a lot of confidence on this product and the way it works, I wouldn't trade it for anything else... Is one of the reasons why a novice builder paint job may look better than the way most people would expect ;)

B) It seems I have a "secret" project B)

I will work on it very patiently while I finish the Audi (And whatever comes next)... this way I can take all the time with it without rushing just because I want to play with models.

Still waiting for the primer, but was able to get a new body for the Audi.

Another little tip, an easy way to do little buttons like that is with colored pencils or colored markers. I use colored pencils a lot when doing brake lines on muscle cars.

Oh and the buttons look fine, i might do more different colors but they look good to me.
