empinut Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Had an extra Revell 23 window bus and hasegawa pick up and was going to make a crew cab, but that has been done already and even in resin so decided to make it a Binz. Barndoor version for added flavor. This will not be stock, but a lowered resto cal look. Major body cuts made, working on extra wide door and driver side crew cab window trim. Barn door conversion started on roof with front panel finished. http://images61.fotki.com/v53/photos/9/22919/8766749/02224961184-vi.jpg http://images16.fotki.com/v369/photos/9/22919/8766749/422971184-vi.jpg More vw stuff to follow
pharoah Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Great idea! What's the difference between a VW and a Binz? I've seen pictures but it's been a while. Go to dropgates.com if you haven't already. A ton of reference for what you're doing.
empinut Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Thanks guys. dropgates .com has the full history on the Binz....coachbuilt, lots of variations, shoddy workmanship, etc. This will be a phantom of sorts...it will have the wider side windows and larger door. Not sure if I will add the ugly drivers side seam leftover from the pick up conversion in real life. I may or may not leave in the sunroof and sky lite windows....still deciding. It will be slammed on 4.5' crableg fuchs in front and 6" fuchs in back and it will have early bumpers and the barndoor conversion. Since it is a barndoor I will have to add the semaphores and reverse the door to suicide style. It will NOT be ratty or rusty. some inspiration.... my style...but a "normal" factory crew cab:
empinut Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Update: about 5 hours spent mating the 4 chopped up pieces from the 23 window and the pick up, finishing the barndoor roof, matching up the driver side window and filling various holes and vents to back date the project. No filler has been used yet, just superglue and scrap plastic to fill small gaps and holes. Tamiya brush on primer is new to me but I love using it now to check for small gaps and holes as it dries quick. Still undecided on whether or not to keep the sunroof and skylites.
