JunkPile Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Seeking advice on how to remove the residue after stripping with Easy Off (yellow can) Followed with more oven cleaner...nope Followed with bleach...nothing Followed with 91% alcohol...nothing Got any idears? Thanks, Junk
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 In most cases a second coating of easy off and a good scrubbing with an old toothbrush is sufficient. As Jeff suggests the Dawn power disolver works really well. The thing to remember with the Easy off is to use luke warm water for a rinse. Cold water will only retard the chemicals and make them not work as well. I've also had good luck using ajax style cleaners. However do not let any powdered cleanser sit on the part for any length of time. Sprinkle some on the toothbrush and then scrub the part rinsing intermittantly under running water. This should clean the parts up quickly and quite well. Hope this helps.
Swamp Dog Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 been using easy off for years..wash in an dishing washing liquid..
vypurr59 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Westley's Bleach White, removes the chrome and the lacquer coat underneath just soak in it for about 15 mins and rinse. Use gloves with this product!!!
Roncla Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I've always used bleach to remove the chrome then Tamiyas' Plastic friendly lacquer thinner to remove the clear coating under the chrome. http://www.tamiyausa.com/items/paints-finishes-60/tamiya-maintenance-material-62000/lacquer-thinner-250ml-87077
