Mrdarkmonkey96 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Im building a model for mu uncle and he wants candy apple red. The only true candy paint I know of for a reasobable price is the dulpicolor stuff. But that is only distributed in quarts... I just need enough for one model. Can anybody help me out? I really cant afford 50 dollars for basecoat, candycoat..
cobraman Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I believe Testors still has a candy red. You will need to prime and shoot with silver or gold as an underbase depending on what tone you want in the candy color. You will also need to clear over it to get the effect I think you may be looking for.
my80malibu Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Scalefinishes has that color in two OZ bottles. I recommend the primer too.

Longbox55 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 The Testors is in a spray can, listed as Candy Transparent Red. It should not need clearcoated, but adding more coats will add depth to the color. Other options would be to use Tamiya Clear Red, either bottle acrylic or the spray lacquer. Scalefinishes is still around, here's the link to the candy paint http://www.scalefinishes.com/candy.html
ScaleDale Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Scale Finishes still shows up in a web search. I got two URLs and a Facebook page. They sell through Elm City Hobbies in Canada, too. http://www.scalefinishes.com/welcome.html http://server512.webhostingpad.com/~scalefin/welcome.html Dale
