I have been spraying my models outside in a homemade type enclosure. With the weather being very unstable with rain and wind, I am wanting to use a booth indoors.

I use cans and airbrush but the airbrush isn't good outdoors for me.

I am looking at the spray booths on Ebay that are reasonable in price and was wondering how good they work.

I noticed they have a computer fan for the exhaust and I could rig mine up with one since I all ready have one.

I spray mostly lacquer ( dupli color) in the cans and I decant for the airbrush.

Would I have to change over to acrylic paint if I bought the cheap booth.

I don't look forward to an explosion if this is not the one to go with.

Any advise would be appreciated on this.

Thanks

I am hoping to buy a 'real' spray booth in the near future. Maybe that would be a good family Christmas present to me!

In the meantime, here's one I made and have been using for the past 20 years or so...

It's basically a Tucker brand recycling bin that I bought because it was 24x24x24 tall. I tossed the lid. It has a bathroom fan in the back of it. The exhaust goes through a metal dryer vent that I place in the window when in use. I have the fan and the lights on one power strip so I use that to turn it on and off. I will pretty much leave it running the whole time I'm working in the model room to provide exhaust for any odors I'm generating. It keeps the smells from going the other direction and into the rest of the house. The photo is in my old house where the model room was a corner room. So I had a window on each of two walls. In that house, especially because I had kids home then, I'd crack open the other window and shut the door. That way I set up a cross ventilation that didn't involve the rest of the house.

The inside of the booth was lined with newspaper. A lot of the paint on the paper were test sprays. I'd take the entire booth outside once a year (when I wasn't building much) taking it all apart and cleaning out everything. And I'd change the newspaper.

Overall, may not be the safest apparatus, and I'm not telling you to copy this at all, but I've been using it 20 years without mishap. Oh, one important thing, I have always kept a fire extinguisher in the model room just in case.

Thanks Tom

Mine is a lot like yours except I made mine out of the plastic sheets that look like cardboard. I am thinking on the line of finding a motor and fan that are seperate from each other. I sure don't want something to explode. Been there and done that with some leaves I was trying to burn and used some coleman lantern fluid to start it. I waited a few minutes before throwing a lighted paper towel on them and after the explosion, I had no eyebrows and arm hair.

Thanks

Thanks Joe

I had looked at that one and I think the squirrel cage fan will be the way to go for me.

I've never used acrylic paint and have seen a lot of it being sold now for models. I guess I need to try some and see how good it might be to change over to it.

Thanks

Richard
