kennb Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I got to thinking................what would have the 57 chevy looked like if GM went to the wide bodies in 57 instead of 59.............I have a perfect victim for this project. A glue bomb that needed so much I was willing to cut it up,,,,,we have sectioned, channeled, stretchered, and chopped this one....now to stretch it side to side and add 8 inches to the width of this car....first pictures show before the cutting torch attacked the body.
kennb Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I am torn on making this bone stock,,,,,,,,or going all out with a corvette (55) grill and packard tail lights....I am missing a lot of chrome so would need a chrome tree to make it stock................(hint hint)
PappyD340 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Interesting to say the least, but I want to see more!!
kennb Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 thanks for the comments,,,you want more,,,it is... I added small strips to each side of the frame instead of dicing it.....i added longer axles and will just move the wheels out 1/8" on each side....I have not done a lot to the frame
kennb Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 getting close............. tires moved out,,,just have to widen the seats now.
kennb Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) side by side with standard and widened. Edited August 20, 2013 by kennb
kennb Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 forgot I had a chrome tree for a 57 time to slice and dice the bumpers. the bumpers are far from smooth so an trying to fix that too.nothing was needed to get the grill to work
kennb Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I have been unable to do any painting of finish work on my builds because of high humidity fogging my paint....so just continuing on this and another.
kennb Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 ready for colour.............any suggestions??????????????/
SoCalCarCulture Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I guess you know that Boyd Coddington beat you to that concept by about 15 years... http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_9901_hot_rods_top_10_for_1998_1997/photo_09.html
kennb Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Nothing is every new,,,,,but in the Boyd tradition he started with a 59 and with the use of some re-pops and hand forming all the remaining parts to come up with the final product....................his is by far a better rendition tho and very stylized where as I am still heading to make it authentic to the 57 product......................thank you for the input,,,it always helps to get further details of others work in the same category
