martinfan5 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 All of the above warnings should apply to *storage* of your cans as well. A few years ago, I had some spray paint cans stored in a cabinet in my garage, which is not climate-controlled. It can get pretty hot there during the Summer On evening I heard a BOOM in the garage, and upon investigation I found that an old can had exploded in the cabinet. I think that the bottom of the can had sort of rusted our and became the weak point. It was huge mess! Fortunately the cabinet absorbed most of explosion, and the mess was mostly contained there. No car in the garage at the time, either - I got lucky that time, and learned my lesson. I store all my cans of paint in the garage , and I live in Phoenix, and this past summer it reached 118 for like a week straight , have not had one explode, but for what ever reason, I did have a can of aircraft remover empty its self, not sure what happened, the can was still in one piece
spawndude Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 The only spray paint I find necessary to heat is Testors Dull coat. If I just shake it I seem to get more of a satin finish than dull. I've heard of the coffee/candle warmer trick and know myself well enough to know there would be a 100% chance I would walk away and forget about warming the can! I've always used hot tap water. However, there was one occasion when the bottom of the can expanded out!
Doug Bowen Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 At 65...anything that needs my attention, prompts me to set an alarm in my cell!! "what's that beeping for??? oh, yeah ...I remember." Sad but true.
Speedfreak Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Warm water from the tap here, never had a problem. When I was a kid I thought it was exciting to put spray cans in the barrel when we burned our trash.
