JasonW18
This is my first time using purple power to remove the paint from a model and I have a few questions for people who have used it. Do you usually use it full strength or dilute it? How long does it typically take to remove paint? And what is the safe time frame for leaving a model submerged in it (will it melt plastic)? Abell82
DO NOT DILUTE!! Purple Power Is like generic Castrol Super Clean. It will not hurt most plastics, but may take a bit longer than CSC. I would leave it in for 24 Hours, brush with an old tooth brush, vegetable brush, or fingernail brush, and repeat as necassary. jbwelda
ditto on that advice. seems they changed the formula a few years back and its not nearly as universal as it used to be. it seems to have great effect on model master paint, and on krylon and other hardware store paints (enamals i would imagine), but it wont even touch tamiya, or if it does it takes a week. but you should be able to tell within 12 to 24 hours how well its going to work, and you might have to work at it with a toothbrush and then resubmerge it in the super clean for another session. the good news is that in my experience anyway, it doesnt seem to harm plastic, though it will take away body putty so any body work will be toast. Jantrix
For lacquers Tamiya, Duplicolor etc. Sand several spots down to the primer and let it soak, the PP or CSC will eat at the primer and then disolve it under the paint. The paint comes off in sheets afterward. Yes, it will take longer than enamels.
Mike
Yup, use it full strength. I've left bodies in it for just over 24 hours and never had a problem. You may end up having to brush/sand some spots after rinsing and soak it a bit more depending on what type of paint you're stripping. Abell82
There have been SEVERAL posts, about using CSC, and Purple power on this board, and others. HOWEVER, in case you have not read any of them= Make sure you wear thick rubber gloves, and use eye protection. This stuff can be nasty if misused. My avatar misused some CSC, and look what happened to him!! Edited November 12, 2007 by Abell82
bobss396
I also agree with sanding lacquers prior to the soak. I'll even go over the whole thing with 320 grit, but of course stay away from any details that shouldn't be sanded. This lets the stuff get in a lot easier and makes the overall process that much faster.
JasonW18
Thanks for all the help and input guys. Its coming out very well. I've had it soaking for about 20 hrs now and the paint is coming off very easy, within the first 4 hours the paint was bubbling and coming loose, I cleaned the loose stuff off at lunch and put it back in and now I'm about to take it out and check again. I'm very pleased with this product, the scent isnt too bad and it works without being rough on the plastic. Now, is there anything special you guys use to clean it before repainting or will the usually water/soap bath work?
jbwelda
i usually just soap and warm water it afterward, but a dip in westlys bleach white wouldnt hurt, then a soap and water.
