Doug Bowen Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Just wanted to update my progress on the convertible boot. Decided to rip the back off of an old tablet and break out the 5 minute epoxy. I wanted to deliberately make it look a little "rippley" with the lumps and bumps from "stretching over the top braces". I have a lot of finish work to do on it yet, but it is getting there. Also included a shot of the steering wheel with the 3-on-the-tree. Now I have to figure out what to do for snaps. Thanks for checking in. D
Doug Bowen Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Well, I'm gonna call this one done! I learned (re-learned!) a whole lot during this first build...from you folks, as well as "the doing" part. My wife said that I had to stop all the "fancy stuff" and remember that the friend I am making this for is in his late 70's. "He probably doesn't have another 15 years to wait for this to be done." She is 100% correct...so I stuck to basics and tonight we are giving it to him as a surprise. Thanks for all your help along the way.
Baugher Garage Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Your friend will be thrilled! This turned out beautifully!
Doug Bowen Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks Mike. It was a fun build. And, yes, he got a real kick out of it last night! Grinned like a little kid at Christmas!. (My next project is a gunmetal grey '63 Avanti for my younger son.) D
charlie8575 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Doug, that looks great. Beautiful job and a nice way to reintroduce yourself to the hobby. Please keep sharing your work with us. Charlie Larkin
Doug Bowen Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Thanks Charlie. At the end of the project all I can think about is the next one and how to do it better. I learned a lot with this one. That's all I was hoping for! Avanti...here we come. D
