Doug Bowen Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Starting my '56 Ford convertible. Anybody have any good ideas on how to fabricate a convertible "boot" to go behind the back seat? All I can think of now is varish or thinned white glue on cotton cloth. Other ideas? D
Ramfins59 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Doug, it might be a lot easier to use a convertible boot from spare parts if you can find one that fits or is slightly bigger that you can trim or sand down to the proper size. Or you can try to fabricate your own from sheet plastic cut and shaped to fit.
pharoah Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I agree with Richard. I usually never had an extra boot to use,so I layered pieces of styrene.Sand and file to shape and use putty to fill the little gaps. Don't forget the 'doglegs' on each side of the back seat.
Doug Bowen Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks guys...I'll try building one up from styrene. D
pharoah Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Doug, Here's one to give you an idea. This is the AMT 55 Bel Air I made into a convertible. The boot could have fit a little better,but.... .
Edsel-Dan Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) I made one for my Converted 58 & 64 Impala's, and 59 Buick. Yes, I laminated Sheet styrene and filed/sanded it to shape All I did was copy the one on my Original AMT 60 Pontiac Bonneville. I have since replaced the one on the Buick with one from a Monogram 59 Impala Here is the 58 Impala. Note I did Not add the dog-legs to the interior rear seat area. And here is my 64. AMT left the Convertible interior in the hardtop kit!! Edited October 24, 2013 by Edsel-Dan
Doug Bowen Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks for the examples, guys. They look great.(I spent the last few days working on my real-life Stude. Back to the little guys soon!)D
Foxer Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I have a resin Triumph TR4A I'm building that was in need of a boot. I cut down the boot from a '51 Chevy to fit, though it still needs some work. Just an example of a possibility.
