looking at Iwata eclipse and paasche talon also don't know enough to decide between gravity feed or siphon. I will be spraying enamels, lacquers and alclad. I would prefer to buy just one new brush. Btw I already own an anthem 155 but I find it difficult to use with alclad. (too much paint not the light fog required for good alclad results) Please only experienced opinions, not rehashes of b.s. online reviews. Thank you for your time. M.G.

Gravity feed is going to be better for low pressure needed with Alclad chrome and polished aluminum. However, I find that using a color cup with my Paasche VL functions much like gravity feed, that is, very little pressure is needed. I don't know whether or not you will find that helpful. It might be if your only concern is gravity vs. suction feed; with most paints at usual psi that difference matters little.

Siphon feed lets you attach a big bottle, which means you can spray a lot of paint before you have to reload. Most color cups on gravity feed guns only hold 1/2oz or less, and if I fill mine too much on my Eclipse, I always seem to spill some even with the top on. I like my gravity Eclipse for fine, low pressure jobs and my Paasche VL for basecoating and larger jobs. A lot of people use the Anthem 155 for all their painting, and it is a very good all-around gun. For spraying Alclad, have you tried the fine needle & nozzle combo?

I traded off my Paasche (recommended by Donn Yost) for an Iwata HP something with gravity feed. I love it! However, I just purchased 2 Iwata HP-TH units. I wanted the fan spray. One will be for color and the other strickly for for shooting 2 part urethane clear.

I thought siphon feed would be better to ba able to use larger cups. Forget that. The gravity feed allows you to just dump in more paint when needed and it's much faster & easier to clean.

I prefer bottom feed for larger spray work and gravity for finer lower psi work .

the best option is having both types

I agree it is good to have both. I use the Talon with the .38mm tip for most painting, it works great with Alclad. I use the Anthem for bigger stuff. The Talon does have a bigger cup than most gravity feeds. I have an Iawta Eclipse HP-CS gravity feed also but the Talon is my favorite airbrush.
