Lindberg Dakota Painted?

are these clearcoated? I went to remove the prepainted door handles. enamal thinner did'nt work. so I decided to try lacquer thinner. it worked on the door handles but it started to do something funky to the red plastic. almost like it was painted. where these clearcoated from the factory? and what will remove this?.
