Austin T Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I know that during the Bicentennial there were a few trucks with some very patriotic paint jobs. Did Mack ever offer one for the R model?Or did anyone ever custom paint one? Thinking about building my R model and want to do something a little unusual and patriotic.
Force Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) Mack had the patriotic All-American with Stars And Stripes paint scheme, but I don't know if it was for the bicentennial celebration...could be earlier. Here are links to pictures of the R series and F series. http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/robert_dick/mack_r_series_ss.jpg http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/robert_dick/mack_f_series_ss.jpg Also the old MPC/ERTL Mack DM800 kits had this paint scheme on the box. Thank you very much for the pictures. I think I know what I'm going to do with my Mack now. Is there a place with more pictures of the truck, I can't seem to find any. Force Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) lapazleo: Yes I thought it was earlier, I have a picture of a Mach R700 in the stars and stripes livery in Rod Adams book Big Rigs Of The 70's, I have now found out that the Stars & Stripes paint scheme was for Mack's 70th anniversary 1970. Austin: Here is one picture I found. http://www.flickr.com/photos/granitefan713/10584671733/in/photostream/ Another, same truck I believe. http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad252/RichReinhart/DSCN1571.jpg The old MPC/ERTL Mack DM 800 Heavy Duty Truck and DM 800 with Rex Cement Mixer kits has the stars & stripes paint scheme on the boxart, so google ERTL DM 800 and you'll get some pics of those kits. I have seen a pic also in the Ron Adams book of a Mack Cruiseliner for the 1976 US Bicentennial celebration with a red, white and blue paint scheme, red up top down to the bottom of the windows, a dividing white stripe and a red stripe right under it, the moddle part of the cab is white with 76 on both sides of the grille, further down a blue stripe divided with a white one and blue under that to the bottom of the cab. I cant find any pictures of that scheme on the internet though. Edited December 23, 2013 by Force
Edsel-Dan Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I built the DM 800 in that scheme MPC first offered these kits Before selling the tooling to MPC in 72 I have the Catalog showing them. The cab was molded in red for the scheme. So on those, it Was Pre-Bicentennial I do hope more of those get re-issued.
Force Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I hope you mean that MPC sold the tooing to Ertl. And yes the stars and stripe livery was for Mack's 70th anniversary in 1970 so it was 6 years before.
lapazleo Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Those stars and stripes Macks would be a cool build.
lapazleo Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I remember back in 76 everything that could be painted red white and blue was.
Edsel-Dan Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 yea I goofed and did not read what I typed MPC original tooled the MACK DM's & Gravel Trailer The Sold the tooling to Ertl. Ertl continued to issue them placing their Loge in p-lace of the MPC logo. No other box art change
rctruk Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Also Kenworth did a bicentennial scheme. Edited December 26, 2013 by rctruk
cappy625 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 it may be to small to see,but look at my avatar.there is the Fmodel,R model and the train.
Force Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Yes I noticed that in another thread and looked if I could get the picture bigger...but no. Peterbilt also had a bicentennial paint scheme called "Patriot" and as with Kenworth only 200 was built, I suspect 100 of the 352 model and 100 of the 359 model. Edited December 26, 2013 by Force
