Mick Schumacher close to Ferrari-linked deal

Mick Schumacher, the 16-year-old son of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, looks set to sign a deal with a Ferrari-linked Italian junior team.

Amid great fanfare, Mick made his single-seater debut in the German Formula 4 series last year, driving for the Dutch team Van Amersfoort.

But Kolner Express newspaper reports that with Schumacher wanting to also contest the Italian series next year, his manager Sabine Kehm is in talks with Prema.

Prema is a Ferrari-linked Italian junior outfit, whose founder Angelo Rosin said: "We will meet in early January."

The report said young Schumacher could also race for Prema in the German series this year, but he is apparently also in talks with Van Amersfoort as well as the new outfit co-owned by his uncle Ralf Schumacher.

Van Amersfoort said: "I'm waiting for Sabine Kehm's decision."

Michael Schumacher, who turned 47 three days ago, won five consecutive world championships for Ferrari between 2000 and 2004.

Health of Michael Schumacher "is not good" says Luca di Montezemolo Thursday, February 4th 2016, 18:22 GMT   Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says the latest news about the health of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher "is not good". It is more than two years since Schumacher sustained severe brain injuries following a skiing accident in the French Alps. "I have news and unfortunately it is not good," Montezemolo told reporters but did not elaborate. "Life is strange. He was a fantastic driver and only had one accident with Ferrari in 1999." Last October, FIA president and close family friend Jean Todt said Schumacher "is still fighting". The German spent a number of months in intensive care in Grenoble hospital before regaining consciousness. He was then moved to a hospital closer to home in Lausanne before returning home in early September 2014. Since then, there has been little information revealed about the 46-year-old and his recovery.

That's not good news about Michael Schumacher, and I'm glad that I've recovered from several skiing accidents in the past. Since then its been NO more skiing for me.

Yes, the former Ferrari boss said Shumacher "was ruined" by the accident.

There are no exact reports of his actual status, period.

Michael Schumacher's manager: Hopefully one day he will be back with us

Michael Schumacher's manager has called for "support and patience" in the hope that one day the seven-time world champion will return to health.

Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013 and is still in recovery at his home in Switzerland. Details of his condition remain scarce, but speaking at the opening of an exhibition to celebrate his career, his manager Sabine Kehm said there is still hope that one day he will be "back with us".

"He is the most successful driver in history and sometimes, on days like this, it is good to be reminded of it," Kehm said.

"Of course, Michael is not here and of course we miss him. We know what has happened and cannot change it. We must accept it and hope with everything we have that, with continued support and patience, he will one day be back with us."

Earlier this month, former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo said the news was not good on Schumacher after saying he regularly checks up on the condition of the seven-time world champion.

Mick Schumacher set for another Formula 4 season

Schumacher, the 16-year-old son of seven-time world champion Michael, enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign in German F4 and at the final round of the MRF Challenge in India. The teenager will join the Prema team which powered Lance Stroll, now at Williams, and Ralf Aron to the last two Italian F4 titles.

Prema enjoys strong links with Ferrari, the team with which father Michael won five of his seven titles. On Friday morning manager Sabine Kehm clarified Schumacher's appointment at Prema does not mean he will be part of the Ferrari Driver Academy this year, a move which had been speculated in Italian press.

"Prema Powerteam for me is the perfect next step on my way to go for the best performance and to become a complete driver," Schumacher said. "The team is very experienced and open, and everybody is really good in working closely with us drivers - plus there is Angelo who is behind every detail. It already is a lot of fun to work with the team, and I look forward to this challenge and to sharing a cool experience together. I am very proud to be a part of Prema."

It is yet to be decided whether Schumacher will race in the German or Italian F4 championship this season.

Michael Schumacher's family have taken a Germany magazine to court over a false report the seven-time world champion can walk again.

Last December, celebrity magazine Bunte published a front page story claiming Schumacher -- who suffered a serious head injury in a skiing accident two years' earlier -- was able to take a few steps with therapists and raise an arm. Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm immediately refuted the story, calling the report "irresponsible" and saying it "gave false hopes to many involved people".

The Schumacher family has taken the magazine to court in Hamburg, with lawyer Felix Damm saying the story was not only false but breached privacy laws as they contained claims about the German's health. Since his accident the full extent of Schumacher's injuries have been kept secret, but as part of the lawsuit Damm has had to confirm he "cannot walk" as the report stated.

Bunte's defence team say the information came from a previously reliable informant -- named as "a friend of Schumacher" in the original article -- who had good knowledge of his condition. The judge presiding over the trial has indicated damages are likely to be awarded to the Schumacher family in the region of 40,000-100,000 Euros. A final verdict is expected in October, according to the Mirror.

I heard that report about him possibly walking while watching the F1 race this past weekend. I thought it seemed kinda odd since all the secrecy around his condition. I think it was Saturday qualifying I heard that.
