I've been casting (just small stuff) successfully with molds made under pressure and no vacuum. I've also talked to a couple casters who do it part time who have both methods. Don't hold off casting looking for a vacuum pump. You at least get started playing with a pot and using pressure and pick up a pump later when you have the funds or feel the need for one.
