hgbben Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I'm using Pegasus sleeves for a project, but to get the look I want I need to blend the tire and sleeve to look as one. I figure I will need to epoxy or glue them together but what are some good suggestions for blending them together? Here is a picture of what i'm working with.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 You have quite an interesting problem there, as adhesives have a hard time bonding well to both the tire material and the aluminum. To get a clean "blend" you'll need something that adheres to BOTH materials well so you can get a good feather-edge after sanding. Interesting problem. I'll be interested in the responses to this one.
hgbben Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Anyone have any experience with Loctite Super Glue ULTRA Gel? http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/sg_ug_cntrl/overview/Loctite-Super-Glue-ULTRA-Gel-Control.htm
vypurr59 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Anyone have any experience with Loctite Super Glue ULTRA Gel? http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/sg_ug_cntrl/overview/Loctite-Super-Glue-ULTRA-Gel-Control.htm My experiences with super glues and aluminum are that the aluminum would take on a frosted appearance from the chemicals in CA. I would think that an epoxy would be a better choice.
hgbben Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 I thought about that Jeff, but i would be sanding is smooth then painting over it
LDO Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Have sleeves custom machined with tread on them. You'll have the only one on the contest table, guaranteed. Maybe find resin tires of the right outside diameter and machine the inside to the right diameter. Edited January 10, 2014 by LDO
randx0 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 You could make a mold, cast the unit, and then modify the resin copy .
heroncustom Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 randx0 amd i think the same i guess. i was gonna say mold and cast that way u wont have to worry about a special glue.
