kk916 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I'm looking for a plastic or resin baby Lincoln but am having trouble finding anything close. I was wanting to build a copy of a friend of mines car but the best I can come up with to get close is the new 49 Mercury. IS there anything closer then this? I'm going to have to modify the heck out of it no matter what I do but I figured this less modification, the less the headache. Heres some pics of his car for refrence. I'd post some more pics of the front but the only ones I have aren't exactly safe for all ages and I like this forum so I decided against it.
Jon Cole Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 The closest I know of is the 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Presidential Limousine die-cast by Yat Ming. I would attach a photo of one, but I haven't figured that out yet how to do that.

kk916 Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 Yeah, I've seen that one a few times in my search, but its just to far off from what I'm trying to copy I think. I may just end up going with a merc model and modifying it at this point. It seems to be the closest thing I can find. Thanks guys!
lordairgtar Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Use the Merc kit. The Revell is already chopped. Those front grille bits are not Lincoln. They seem to be Buick teeth and dagmars. The hood trim can be scratched easy enough and I have no clue as to what the bumper is off of.

Basically, the only real difference is in the front fenders and grille (I believe the hood is the same basic unit. Simply whittling back the headlight area of the Merc front fenders, then some catalyzed puttywork to fill in, round that out, add back in the recessed headlights (check out using the appropriate diameter of K&S Aluminum tubing for the headlight tunnels, and you will be there. Revell's new '49 Mercury already has the taillights nailed for you, those are '49-50 Lincoln units. Have fun, this one shouldn't be major surgery! Biscuitbuilder
62rebel Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 you could use '63 Avanti headlights turned on their sides to recreate Lincoln headlights; that front drop bumper is available in the AMT '51 fleetline kit. the hood accent could be done with sheet styrene. the grille i don't know about but i'm sure there's a source for one like it.

Note the character line (peak) that eminates from the back of the hood down to the flare over the front. The Mercury hood does not have that. Also, the B pillar will have to be canted forward as the Model Merc is straight vertical. Edited December 11, 2007 by lordairgtar
lordairgtar Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 One more note, the teeth appear to be De Soto parts now that I look at them closer. The dagmars look like Buick units. Not sure of that bumper but it is not the same as the 51 Chevy custom bumper, that one is thinner. The Lincoln's bumper appears to be larger in cross section.
Olle F Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 you could use '63 Avanti headlights turned on their sides to recreate Lincoln headlights Or just drill and recess pieces of aluminum tubing. I would go with the new '49 Merc, it even comes with those taillights, doesn't it?
OLDERGUY Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Seems to me Resin Relum[ thre different resin casters] relum, may not be the correct spelling.
kk916 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 Wow, thanks for all of the great tips folks. This is going to be alot of help getting this done. I found http://www.resinrealm.net/ and will be checking them out as well as a few others. The hood and roof seem like they are going to be the hardest parts. Thanks again!!!
