JTalmage Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I am collecting parts for a build of the '65 Fairlane in stock form, already have the resin body from A/FX resin, but I hate the chassis that comes with the original kit. I would like to not have full exhaust molded to the chassis, and would like to have more detailed suspension. Has anyone else had experience in this? I thought maybe either the 64 Fairlane Tbolt or the '66-67 Fairlane may work, but wanted to check before I bought a car for no reason and hacked it to pieces. thx!
disabled modeler Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Id love to do that myself....its nice to have a odd or different car in the collection. Have no idea of what might work on it unless maybe you can find an old original chassis somewhere?
JTalmage Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 I'd say that the model king/AMT chassis is definitely based off the original promo chassis that the car probably started life out as. I dont like it at all though. I really want to make a nice model to replicate my dad's car.

I also have been looking for some models, parts, etc. to build some of our family owned cars/trucks too...its not easy to find them or what the ones I do have need. I could be wrong but I think they made a factory stock kit as an annual and a promo too...wish I could help.
JTalmage Posted February 15, 2014 Author Posted February 15, 2014 Well as it turns out the '64 Thunderbolt chassis is a near perfect fit! Except the rear fenderwells need trimmed so the chassis slips in the body better. Resin is apparently hard to bend... and I snapped a little off of the lower quarter on my resin fairlane body
Force Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) Well the Thunderbolt chassis should fit if the scale is correct as 1962-65 Fairlanes IRL has the same basic body and chassis. The 1966-67 Fairlanes has a different chassis as Ford did a totaly new Fairlane for 1966, that chassis looks much like the later Torino. I have a 1964 Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe myself wich I have owned for about 10 years so I have read up on them a bit. Edited February 15, 2014 by Force
JTalmage Posted February 15, 2014 Author Posted February 15, 2014 Very cool. Dad has had his '65 since about '80 or '81 I think
