realgone58 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I generally don't post a bunch in this section of the forums, but I recently found one of my "grails" in a bunch of parts I bought online. I had figured it wouldn't be complete, but I was surprised and happy to find most of the parts in the lot. I am missing only a few things, and I've placed a wanted ad in the appropriate section on these forums. Anyway, I wish I had a before pic to show you, but when I got this thing, it was a total glue/putty bomb. Reason I say putty is because someone had filled every seam and opening part on this thing, all smoothed over with a heavy dose of some old sawdust looking BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. Then they proceeded to cover it all in heavy brush painted yellow. I took a shot, soaked the entire thing in the pond before I even tried to pull anything apart, hoping it would soften the putty. It worked! Still waiting on the interior and frame to come clean. What's left of the yellow on the stripped body is where the putty was. It is very fixable with nothing more than some sanding and light filling here and there. Time to finish this one depends on finding the few parts I need. Next is on to finding the Flying Dutchman funny car kit, which is what became of one of the bodies from the three examples of this concept car that Chrysler built. Anyone have one of these things? If so, I'd love to see some built. Even the Flying Dutchman for that matter.
Deathgoblin Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Nice score!! I've been watching for one of these. I'm curious to see how it builds up.
Mike Kucaba Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It's good to see that you cleaned up the offending bodywork & paint. It irks me to see people start a project with prior paint on it of (possibly) an unknown type. Good luck on the restore.
