While waiting for the 2014 Corvette kits (promos now mean kits later, right?), I would like to fill in the gaps in my Corvette display with 2010 - 2013 Grand Sport coupes and convertibles. They would all need the unique Grand Sport front fender vents, nameplate and the 'forked tongue' wheels:

Z06 coupes will provide the wide fenders and hood scoop for Grand Sport coupes, but some plastic hacking would be required to make a convertible version out of the Z06 coupe. Has anyone done this conversion? Are any pieces available in resin?

Also, wasn't there an article by our lost Corvette expert and friend Ismael Gonzalez on combining the C6 coupe full detail kit and the snap convertible? It would be handy just to see how he did the cutting.

Rob? Len? Corvette fans? Any info or suggestions?

Thanks,

Yes I have done the conversion using a Z06. I just cut out each side then cut them in half. Put a .030 piece of plastic on top.

I will post later tonight so you can see what I did.

Haven't done the GS conversion yet but plan to. It wouldn't seem to be to difficult and my plan was pretty much the same as Len's. Doing the Z06 convertible is an easy one, the convertible rear deck is an easy fit when you cut out the coupe roof and hatch along the hatch lines which match the trunk lines almost perfectly.

David, I talk to Ismael every few months and unfortunately he's not modelling anymore. A Change of jobs, big increase in work load, finding time for the family........something had to give and it was time with plastic. I hope that someday he'll return to the light.

Guess I did post this in the wrong place, thanks for moving it.

I like your approach to the side vents, Len. My thoughts were way too complicated. Concerning the convertible conversion, Robert, it makes sense that the coupe hatch and convertible deck would be the same opening, I hope the model tooling is close. I do notice a little difference around the B-pillar area but not a big deal.

I do hear from Ismael at Christmas, he was military modeling for a while but has apparently given that up also. I noticed in his photo account that his son did a snap '63 Corvette, maybe we'll have two great Corvette modelers from that family some day.

Thanks,
