Cato Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I'd like more control by using air brush. Does it need thinning and if so which thinner? I assume it needs to out-gas before spraying. This is gloss Krylon I'm asking about. Interested in any techniques used.
DrGlueblob Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Just shoot into a Dixie cup and right to your airbrush. Works a treat. Before they went to the new spray nozzle, I kept a WD 40-type setup for just this. You don't need to thin it any more, just use it as is.
Cato Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Thanks Chip! Would you explain this? "I kept a WD 40-type setup for just this."
majel Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I used Krylon on my last build, decanted a red and a blue and shot them through my badger airbrush. They both came out great without thinning, cleaned the airbrush up with lacquer thinner. I think what Chip was talking about was he used the "straw" that comes with WD-40 to attach to the spray can.
DrGlueblob Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Yep, thanks Jim. The straw was less messy but now Krylon's gone to a different spray nozzle. Of note, keep in mind that Krylon still makes some sprays in enamel. You don't want to spray a lacquer over enamel. The cans with lacquer will say ("Dries in 10-15 minutes or less").
