Has anyone made the side vents or grilles that were on the later 289 Cobras and how did you do it? I'm wondering if there is an appropriate size of Evergreen clapboard siding that could be used vertically. Or cut out the hole and try inserting flat pieces of photo etch "sprue"?

Thanks!

If you have an old Sunny 427(lol) kit it has the louvers and you could cast a set in clay or make a rubber mold.

then use some eyball engineering to place them.

Here's what I'd do.

I'd use Plastruct stairs. They come in several sizes. You would need to recess the vent a little like on the real car.

If the vents are too far apart for your taste, then I would cut out some individual steps and glue them in between the other steps. I know that sounds hard, but you only need about five vents. I'd need a really good closeup picture of the Cobra Vent to be sure. But you get the idea......

Thank you.

No, both hoods are made using the stairs just the way they come from Plastruct.

Here's the 49 Merc hood finished.
