Vanoyen Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Hey, Well it's a little late but I've managed to make a start on my first project in over 10 years I couldn't decide whether to make the coupe or Spyder Audi so I'll be doing a double build with a little tweaking and converting. The end goal for the two kits should be something similar to this but possibly with different colours... The kits involved and some PE goodies.. Revell has perfectly replicated the slick yet powerful lines of the R8s however I have found a bit of warping on the chassis of both kits and engine hood/bonnet of the coupe. I'd love to see Tamiya or Aoshima make a version but Revell has still done a great job. First thing I wanted to do was remove the chrome plating from the wheels as they are a little too bright and "chromey" for my taste. After soaking in bleach for a few minutes, it came right off very easily. I need to make a choice of which wheels to use with each model. Whichever way I go, the rims will be painted Alclad Polished Aluminium or Airframe Aluminium. I'll have to test on some spoons to see how each finish looks. I like the front and rear vanes (not sure of the correct term) and lower body panels of the Spyder more than the coupe so I've used a second Spyder kit to add these parts to the coupe. I removed the side panels from the coupe and spyder Then added styrene strips to the inside of the coupe's body to provide a more stable platform for the new panels. CJ1971 Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I've built the Spyder ( twice! ) & have an on going WIP with the coupe. I think the differences in the vanes/side moldings are because the Coupe is the V8 & an earlier version & the Spyder came out much later & Revell kitted it with the V10. Personally I'd go with the ( Hobby-Design ?) wheels on the coupe & the V10 wheels on the Spyder. The stock wheels for the coupe are just too small & not "blingy" enough, just my opinion though. I'd skip white ( for a colour ) just too plain, these beauties deserve a colour that will truly show them off ?? I'm liking what you're doing though... Great start ??? I'll use the V10 engine from the second spyder kit in the coupe. White can look very plain but black and white can look very striking if pulled off correctly. I do agree with you though.. They deserve color! I've got a couple of Pegasus 23" rims that the stock wheels fit inside nicely so I may make some deep dish versions of the stock for the couple. I'll post up s pick soon. I'm Doing exact same thing... Putting the Spyder's V10 into the Coupe ?? What do they say about great minds thinking alike? ?? Lol I agree about the stock V10 wheels... The fit wasn't 100% and required several layers of putty to have the body and rear end flush with each other. I was using the Tamiya fine white putty and it seems to sink a lot. Anyone got any ideas for a better putty I can use on future kits for body work? Hopefully the putty won't crumble when I re-scribe the panel line. Here's the GT rear end on the full scale car. I like the large exhaust but I'm not overly excited with a satin finish for the body. Admittedly, this is only because It's my first model in a long, long time and my second car model ever so I'm itching to do some polishing! lol The Spyder kits rear end will be going on the coupe... Here's a possible colour choice for the coupe. It's actually just a plain metallic grey but the reflection and lighting give it a beautiful grey/aqua look. It's this look I'd like to try and replicate but not sure how to go about it yet. I'm thinking possibly a gun metal base coat toped with a clear blue/green mix to give the aqua tone... Tricky.
