semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 hey everybody for those in the 1/14 scale hobby and wants to add a lowboy to there collection , but cant afford the 1200 and up price tag. this thread will show a how-too for under 300.00usd using stock Tamiya wheels, tires, suspension and cross members. but once you go into the aftermarket parts, well, that where it will start to get pricey I bought the alum channels and plate from onlinemetals. they cut the sheets down to what size you want for like 3.00usd plastics I bought from local hobbie shops or tower hobbies I used a standard hand saw, drill, knife, 3mm and 2mm taps. for tools the low boy trailer I looking at is . it has a working folddown goose neck , really kool. ok lets get started
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 ive started with the suspension and rear frame . I used tamiyas trailer axles and suspension , to stay with the budget use all stock parts here you need to make the mount from the suspension to the belly of the trailer, put some weight on the chassis , then mark how high you want the trailer to sit of the ground, here I put 6 pounds on it
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 next I started on the rear deck, here im using .080 styrene for the floor im using the stock king hauler / globeliner rear bumper. next ive added wooden planks
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 lets get started on the belly of this beast . I need end pieces for the each end of the chassis so I used the front bumper mounts of the king / globe trucks to scale the belly is 25 1/2 inches long and 7 inches wide the c-channel is from online, 22mm high x 6mm wide next I cut the metal for the front deck. this is 11 inches long
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 next I wanted to see how high I need to make this sit with a no load . I use 2x channel to sit under the belly . then I used a dollie up front, same as truck. leveled it out I cut the hinges for the fold down
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 heres the gooseneck folded down started to add more planking made the front ramps added the sides to the rear made the rear bumper
semijoe Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 added the cover of the rear heres a view of the hinges im using shocks here, buy you can use real hydraulics or actuactors here the trailer is done
