Any tips on getting realistic finish on gold toned Moroso valve covers?

While I don't have any pictures of them, I stripped the chrome off a set. I clear coated them with lacquer then sprayed Gold Chrome lacquer from duplicolor in a can, then clear coated once more.

Duplicolor makes a candy yellow Metalcast that might work over chrome or a very fine silver pearl.
