Gray, I really must say this, That looks great!! The closest I've come to doin anything like that was a full on Blue Max funny car build I tried doin awhile back. But that one is stalled as I can't get the paint right on it. What do you use to thin the fingernail polish? I've got several projects that I have found the perfect colors for, but I'm not sure what to thin the fingernail polish with. Mageck

Chris, I use pactra rc finish laquer thinner to thin my nail polishes and auto paints...it isn't nearly as hot and so far i've had no issues with it in my paint jobs. When using nail polish thought remember that some of the nail polishes are very thin color wise and require alot of coats to build up color. the orange i'm using on this looks peach unless I build up enough color, thats why I added some pearl to it, and i'm going to add a drop or 2 of hok candy tangerine base to give it some more solidity.

Sorry to hear about the influenza outbreak on your homefront. Glad to hear you're feeling better and don't get that little girl of yours sick!

Oh I'm hoping I won't get her sick..i'm over the flu, plus she had her flu shot not too long ago..

Thanks everyone for the comments on the motor...after seeing Kenny's 34 truck thread I saw one motor detail I left out...other than that its done..I bmf'd the starter and oil filter last night and put those on and decaled the dizzy..now all thats left is the exhaust and the other little detail(oil dipstick) and I can move onto the suspension and brakes.

Now that's cool. I just love to see the new stuff being built. Great engine detail. great everything else and I'm more into traditional stuff, but I'll be looking forward to see how this 32 turns out.

Hey guys...long time no see

I've been busy in real life as well as entertaining a couple of redheads and some asians on the model bench(see another post i'm about to make after this). I lost some inspiration after putting so much in the motor, and just not being happy at all with the wheels...something about putting so much into a kit and using the wheels you know your not happy with just kills it..so here is a poll of sorts...

what do you guys think of these new hoops? I finally got some mold making rubber and promptly casted these puppies up by the boat load..lol

they are modded Salt Flat Specials from the revell WOF 57 Chevy...what do you guys think of that molded finish? its pearl ex silver brushed into the mold, then black resin poured in. Tires are bigs and littles from a Tamiya 360 Modena with some other lips I casted(and need to cast - the chrome ones) to widen them up. Anyway I'm back on this one somewhat, I want to get it finished before august to enter in the CKM NNL Summer Classic.

Hope you like it guys..sorry for my absence..

Brilliant! Just Brilliant! Those RMC ’32 highboys can so easily enslave you to their built in aesthetic. You’ve done a great job of breaking free!

Those new wheels are just the ticket, Such a great combination of the traditional and the contemporary. They really help top off the modernist theme of this build. Another great, original creative detail in a superb collection of them. The molded in color is very cool, very real looking.

Love the chassis work. Did you “c†the front of the frame by the firewall a little to lower the front end? The material added to the rear of the frame/floor-pan makes the z applied to the frame kick up invisible and integrates the air tunnel assembly perfectly. The rear air tunnel detail is such a terrific alternative to a rolled pan! Also, big props for keeping the stock ’32 reveal line on the frame rail. This has gotta be one of the lowest “highboys†ever.

Those drillings in the interior to give a sort of luxury sportscar leather look will pay off big time once that interior is painted out. Also, I like the single gauge pod dash idea. Another modernist touch.

The car has such a great collection of creative details that it’s almost too easy not to notice how well integrated that DuVall windshield is into the overall look. Too many times those things look pasted on! This time the positioning and rake ideally complement the overall stance. I can’t imagine the car with the conventional windshield.

I’d definitely go with a p/e grill. It also might help avoid additional sectioning work on the shell by choosing the right pre-chopped piece.

My only gripe might be those carb stacks. The idea’s right but they seem just a little big in diameter to my eye...

Can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

Bernard, Thanks for the compliments! it really makes me want to finish it even faster!

to answer your question about the front, I pie cut the front frame where you can see the putty marks..all I did was run a saw blade almost all the way down then bent it up and superglued it. the sawblade width was just perfect for the right kick up...

I am going with a p/e grill, i'm torn though if I should go traditional with the vertical grill, or go with the horizontal one offered by mcg(i'm leaning heavily towards horizontal). I do also agree that the stacks are a bit big..I'm still not totally happy with the look(looks kinda rat roddish) but I wanted the venturi's to be visibly smaller than the stack, and thats the smallest aluminum tube I could find...maybe next time i'll get some thin wall stainless or brass and try that, since this won't be the last hot rod I build...

Many thanks again for the comments..

Hey guys...long time no see?

yep a real update on this one after it has sat in the box for over a year. I can chalk this progress up to the new 32 5-window sitting on the floor next to the roadster..and the 32 sedan(go figure the one 32 5-window I get and that beautiful new engine has a short shot on one of the block halves!)

Anyway the paint ain't perfect, the remaining detail won't be as much as the motor, but this one is on its way to being finished. I obsessed for too long on a neat front suspension design, only to lose interest. SO its getting kit stock parts, lowered of course. I'm going to build up a quick belly pan to cover the exhaust, rear suspension, and to tie in the rear diffuser. the new paint is my own custom mix of nail polish, pearl ex gold, white, red pearls, and some HOK candy tangerine, topped off with a few coats of testors wet look clear. I'll polish it up, and build up the chassis first, then I'll glue the body on and finish the interior afterwards. If it looks halfway presentable i might take it to the CKM contest coming up..

anyway enough long winded typing..here is a semi decent pic of the paintwork.

enjoy!

sorry i've been out of action over the last year guys...I've really lost all ambition to build, i've been working on some bikes, but nothing car wise...i have to force myself sometimes to do work on them...this is one of them...i'm trying to make the builds fun and simple again...

Hey guys,

Please pardon the cell phone pics, I didn't have any batteries in my camera. Its now sitting on its wheels, I got the suspension and wheel mounting figured out. They aren't glued on yet, and need some paint but you get the idea. In the pics it looks like its sitting a little front high but its not. I can still get a mm or 2 out of the front suspension. I'm going to try to finish this one up soon with a major brunt of the work happening next week while i'm on vacation. Anyway enough babbling...heres the pics.

Comments and Critiques always welcome.
