my80malibu Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I have several bodies that I have painted in the project stage the problem is now that I want to apply the clear they craze some of these paint s are automotive types and some are laquers from testors and tamiya I am using duplicolor acrylic enamel clear and acrylic laquer clear and have had the same problem with both types I really could use some advice on this.
LVZ2881 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 1. dont mix enamel and lacquer....results are not good. 2. duplicolor and tamiya and testors lacquer are fine together, they are all lacquer.. 3. krylon and duplicolor/ tamiya dont mix either..... best advice is to stick with the same paint manufacturer until you get comfortable mixing them together, i.e., duplicolor clear over duplicolor paint, etc... I have personally used tamiya over duplicolor primer with no problem, and vice versa....and testors lacquer over duplicolor primer with tamiya clear on one project.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Even though they are lacquers, the Duplicolor clears are too hot to be used over Testors and Tamiya lacquers. I recommend Tamiya clear and you can use it over the Testors lacquers.
Modelmartin Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I have been using PPG clear lacquer over Tamiya lacquer just fine. Of course it is NOT spray can paint. I bought a quart and thinned it myself and airbrushed it. The stuff out of a spray can has more solvents to keep it sprayable which is really what goes after vulnerable paints underneath.
