Kit Basher Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I want to build this car, but I know almost nothing about it. Not having much success searching online. I don't mind some kit bashing and scratch building. I could use any info about the correct engine, suspension, brakes, rollcage, interior, etc., etc., etc. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Something like this:
freakshow12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Start with the 65 gt350 r model as that's what that that car is a replica of. Not a 68 at all
Kit Basher Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) I should have been more clear. The kit I have is a '68. The photo is of the type of car I want to build, not the specific car I want to build. So I'm looking for info for a '68. General info about these cars over several years would also be helpful. Kit Basher Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 Thanks for those links, Jeff. Sites like that are what got me interested in building this type of car. I just don't know enough about them to build a halfway accurate model of one.
freakshow12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) What I would do then is grab a 65 r model. Take the wheels and tires The seat and the roll bar. Grab the side Exhaust too. Make straps for rear windows, remove the rear seat. For an engine you will want a small block ford so you could use the 289 out of the 65. The k code was gone after 67 and by 68 mid yr the 302 was the stock engine. But for this build they look similar and in 68 ford was playing with the 302 tunnel port. I will find a pic of the tunnel port engine for you. They didn't live long lol. But paved the way for the boss 302 for 69 Edited July 13, 2014 by freakshow12
freakshow12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Here you go. Tunnel port didn't look much different from the regular 289/302. To build yours just use the engine from the 65 r model and add a 2x4 barrel intake. 68 was an awful yr for fords racing efforts. That engine failed on a regular basis.

Wasn't it in 1968 when Fords engineers, jumped ship and were working with AMC on the AMX/Javelin program?
freakshow12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) Yes. The tunnel port was a train wreck. The boss 302 was ready to go so they went and helped elsewhere. That's why I find it cool someone wants to build a 68 trans am car. For the most part everyone wanted to forget that season lol Edited July 13, 2014 by freakshow12
