Albert Wallace Jr. Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 This is a 1/24th scale '41 Chevy by a die cast company called..."Welly". Welly makes some very interesting models of subjects the (plastic)Model Companies won't touch. Sometimes it's the "metal guys", who's subject matter keeps my/this hobby going. My two '41 Chevys; Stock, and modified into a street rod(?). I lowered it, used parts box wheels and tire, BMF, a little detail paint, and some flocking for the interior, and called it done. mikelo Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I don't see any reason why you can't. Nice mods to the Chevy. There is guy on another forum (1:1 car site) who actually does replicas of peoples cars with these. And not just change the paint. He took a stock Baracuda (67?) and turned it into a pro stock racer complete with removable front clip! I say go ahead. Show us more!
Irvin Arter Jr. Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Albert, Were "thicker skinned" here. You don't need to walk on eggshells. Were kinda low key. Feel free to post what ever according to the proper catagory. Maybe Greg will start another area for motified die cast if there is enough interest. I have dabbled in it too. If it's a scale car and I like it, I have modified it some how! I can't leave anything alone. Here is on I have been working on tubbed 66 Nova I stretched the rear wheel wells by grinding off the trim lip Yea it's lowered!
Robert Myers Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Did you enjoy the model build? If so, I don't care if it is metal, resin or plastic or whatever. Please post!!!!! I have a couple of diecast cars that I intend to modify a bit. Seeing someone else do it and post it is encouraging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you
Raul_Perez Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Well, I guess that I'll hold off from posting any of my diecast cars...the only modifications I've made to them was to remove them from the box and put them in my display case!! Maybe the women in China that build all of those beautiful Danbury Mint Pro-Street and Pro-Stock model cars should post their work here!! Afterall, the did build them from a kit!!
OLDERGUY Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I've visited your site, anything you would like to post is O.K with me, since I haven't posted any pics.

Lyle Willits Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Bring em on, Albert. A model car is a model car. (One of my more profound statements!) I have that exact same Chevy convertible by Welly. I plan to strip it, paint it red, remove SOME of the chrome doodads, drop it down, and do a tuck&roll interior,,,,,,,,,,,,,,SOME DAY.
Modelmartin Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 As long as something more than removing it from the box was done it qualifies as a model made out of zinc! I still remember the bad old days when I could not enter my white metal 1/43rds in IPMS because they were not "plastic".
Raul_Perez Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 As long as something more than removing it from the box was done it qualifies as a model made out of zinc! I still remember the bad old days when I could not enter my white metal 1/43rds in IPMS because they were not "plastic". I don't think that's changed much!! My friend Jerry Cardinal's brass models were snubbed last year at the IPMS show in Santa Clara because they weren't painted. I guess that they still take the "P" part of the IPMS pretty seriously!! Are those the same guys that run the "other" forum?!
jbwelda Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 personally i think they take the "PMS" thing too seriously!
Raul_Perez Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 personally i think they take the "PMS" thing too seriously! I'm with you there, Bill!!! The IPMS show just wasn't as much fun as the NNL. It was way tooooooooooooooooooooooooooo serious for me. If you want to use a light compensating, digital colorometer to ensure I used the correct shade of paint or a magnifier and a digital micrometer to measure the correct size and placement of a decal under the hood of one of my cars then I'd suggest you keep on walking...I can assure you that I'm not that precise in anything I build for myself. I remember several of the IPMS judges looking at my black, chop-top '25 T hotrod many times with one of the judges continually telling the others that the front axle was turned a few degrees out of it's correct location. I finally said loud enough for them to hear that if they didn't like that they could just keep on keepin' on. I think that I embarrassed them because I got an award for the car!! And that's why you'll see me with a constant smile at any NNL!
