Does anybody make a nice 4" or so resin cowl hood that will fit the revell/monogram kits? Lex's scale modeling has one but the last hood I got from him was 2x too thick, I'm hesitant to order from him again

I found nothing, except for the Lex's Scale Modeling hood. It's not too hard to scratchbuild that kind of scoop, though. I've done it a couple of times. I bet you could do it easily. :)

Several times I've tried to scratch one, but every time I end up getting something crooked :P The Lex's one is not too expensive but a lot of work to got to fit, I don't quite know what I'll end up doing, but I'll figure something out :)

If the hood from Lex's doesn't fit, how about cutting the scoop separate and gluing that on Revell hood? I don't know if it's a good idea, just thinkin' aloud... :D

edit; after I looked closer, its a standard cowl induction hood, but they still have the outlaw humps down the page.

check here, Comp resins, not a very high hood, but it may work...

item #22, a little farther down there are outlaw "humps", if you will.

very reputable and nice parts.

hope this helps.

That is just a slight bit too short, I have a flat non SS hood that I suppose my only option is to try making a cowl and graft it on. That's not too big of a deal except the part where I suck at body work  . I guess I have some quality time to spend with some styrene stock and filler putty then..

A couple of options:

You could buy just the 6" outlaw scoop itself, cut it down to the height you want and graft it onto your hood.

You could cut the scoop out of a '69 Camaro, add to the height and graft it onto your hood.

In either case, make sure you glue the scoop on before you carve out the center of the hood. It's also a good idea to tape the hood to the body when you add your scoop to insure that it will fit right.

hey Roger, funny, but i do it just the opposite. i will lay down tape to see how wide to make the scoop. cut out the hood, then cut styrene to fit inside the cut hood so i can lay the glue on thick to insure a good bond to the hood. notch the sides to extend to the front. lay some styrene on top and cut to fit. sand it for nice and round edges and you are done.

in my opinion, make sure the scoop runs parallel to the hood, see too many that are in an incline, i think they look goofy. i'd add a picture, but it says it's too big, as usual.
