crazyrichard Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) hey guys whell after the hotrod garage and the old gasstation diorama and not building anything this summer , it started to ich so i started a new base for a garage , all made from old stuff i had lying around .. old wood base with side of old flooring laminate decided this one should have like a separate office and i thought it would be cool to put in 3 windows and then on the inside make like a wall with big windows so the light shines in today i painted the floor with multiple layers untill i got this effect wich i liked , now this is a more modern looking garage in comparison to the hotrod garage i did .. but not hyper modern .. i want to keep this one cleaner but still apply some weathering to bring it alive , will be much milder then the other one ... after the floor i used old ribbed plastic window blinds for the lower side like some sort of high kick panel to protect the walls against weld sparks and damage .... above that a edge from real hard wood wich i stained with wood stain on top of that to get a smooth wall base where i can work on ... old smooth plastic window blinds now i would have to make window frames , walls , a attic with stairs .. and loads of stuff .. will be putting in a lot of detail and machines and stuff this one basicly will be 100% scratch build from garage to tools and machines ... where i will use as much old scrap stuff as possible ... its just a start all still rough Edited November 2, 2014 by crazyrichard
wayne swayze Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Clean car = clean garage! Great to have you back Richard!
crazyrichard Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 thnx wayne .. well been watching a lot of stuff here .. replyed sometimes but i just didnt have as much time lately ..i just have so much other stuff going on beside modelbuilding and forums in the summer
bpletcher55 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 YOU got my attention ,look forward to seeing this one ,
crazyrichard Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 thnx guys , well went for kind of the 60's style ... made a checkered edge ... not really my style , i just love the old buildings and weathered stuff .. but i just wanted to make something different this time ... printed the checkers in the right size on regulair a4 paper cut them out and glued them on the wall , the left side in the pic below has one coat of gloss clear over it , this really makes the black more black and gives it a shine ... later i will give them a second coat .. after this its sealed and doesnt look like paper anymore .. simple and cheap
crazyrichard Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 whell got a lot done today , started to dress it up with hardwood and stained the wood .. looks real classy .. this made me think .. i need a shiney floor now ?? stylewise it could even be a rich mans mancave garage ..??
wayne swayze Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Looks great Richard.....like you said.."classy" ! Love what you've done to the walls....maybe a shiny floor, like black and white tiles?
crazyrichard Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 thnx guys and yes well maybe only a black and white tile floor where the office / chill earea will be . all over might be a bit over the top ... i just made the first wooden surround in the window openings , later i will make windowframes with windows , maybe make them so they are a tad opened ..
bobthehobbyguy Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Very cool. Great project. Looking forward to more.
crazyrichard Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 just finished the rest of the windows and added the stands below at the wall , those are just there because i only had short pieces of the ribbed stuff , so i hat to hide some seams , later with dres up and benches / machines .. it will tie in i think
kpnuts Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Great work therewith be watching this with interest.
crazyrichard Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 thnx kenneth now thinking where i can get some nice material to use as glass windows .. packaging stuff ususally isnt bright enough , good for a weathered diorama but on this one i need crisp windows .. oh well i'm sure i will find something
Dominik Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hi Richard, after you awesome Hot Rod Diorama i will watch your progress again. What goal did you follow? Old and dirty or shiny?
crazyrichard Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 thnx and no this one will be more shiney ... if i use weathering it would be very very minimal ...its hard not to go wild on weathering because i just love to do that but no ... shiney
Tukkerdax Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hi Richard, Nice to have you back again. I will follow ofcourse ...looks great so far .good luck.....
crazyrichard Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) Hi Richard, Nice to have you back again. I will follow ofcourse ...looks great so far .good luck..... thnx thnx yes i finally broke though my summer / build dip Edited August 25, 2014 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 small update ... i designed a new garage logo more suited for the style of this garage .. the lead sled side profil i actually got that of a picture of a black t-shirt i found on google used that in a red circle and added the richrods styrene garage text , just simple and clean , added a mild grain effect that helps to make it look a tad more realistic when printed out , not so static (?) looking then printed the logo out on the right size and glued it on a piece of plastic ... that now has one coat of gloss varnish (just hand brushed it on) , after drying (read after this post) i will give it a second layer .. maybe a 3th and 4th .. i will stop when it looks good .. when the coats are done i will cut the circle out and i can place it on the wall , will use a spacer so its not flat against the wall and that will create some shading and depth ps i was playing around with this logo and held it in front of the window in my house and realised that when i would print something > anything with white lettering on a colored surface and print it mirrored and place it backwards on a signholder and put lights in it it would really look so much like a light sign .. will try stuff like that later
JTalmage Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Good to see you back at another awesome project! Loved the hot rod garage!!
crazyrichard Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 thnx guys !! the logo after 3 hand brushed layers of clear varnish > then sprayes a thick layer of gloss clear (rattle can) on it , now on the pic its just been sprayed on and on the wall it will shine less , did this shot on purpose by the window and made the light hit it to show the gloss .. so in the garage it will be readable
