chrome plated parts off runners

Hi guys,

can you please advise on how to remove chrome plated parts of their runners without leaving a mark of unchromed spot where the stub was?

if there are any other tricks for this, i would appreciate it if you could share some

Unfortunately it doesn't appear that it is possible to do that. We all have to sometimes sand the attachment point smooth and then touch up that spot with either chrome silver paint or BMF. Some people strip all the chrome off the part and use Alclad to rechrome the whole piece.

thats what I usually do is strip the chrome first off as there is always that mold seam and no matter how hard I try I have never gotten away with any way to get rid of the mold line with out touching the chrome plating, if you are real serious about it being real chrome you can strip the chrome, sand all mold lines out and the attachment points and send them to a chrome plater, that is the ultimate way to go, I have always wanted to send to plater but money has been an issue for me, but for $25.00 for a 6"x9" rack of parts its about the same as buying a kit. So it comes down to a matter of personal preference. Manufacturers just do not seem to get it that the attachment points on the chrome has always been an issue but It cost money to re-engineer them on the back of the parts so we do not need the cost to go up for something we can fix as they are getting out of site any way.

i think i will try the alclad and see how it goes. any tips on how to strip the chrome completely off a part to prepare for the alclad?
